Egy férfit és egy nőt tartóztattak le egy nagyszabású drograzzia keretében, amelynek során annyi szintetikus ópiátot foglaltak le, hogy az akár 50 millió ember halálát is okozhatná.
Augusztus 17-én a rendőrség razziát tartott egy kaliforniai otthonban, ahol 21 kilogramm karfentanilt foglaltak le, amely a morfinnál 10 ezerrel erősebb halálos szintetikus ópiát.
A karfentanil a fentanil rokona, amelynek a halálos adagja két milligramm. Az amerikai Kábítószer-ellenes Hivatal (DEA) szerint még érintésre is halálos, mivel a bőrön keresztül felszívódik, és nem emberi használatra készült – írja a New York Post.
A 30 éves Andres Jesus Moralest és a 27 éves Christine Ponce-t egyenként négy rendbeli, értékesítésre szánt kábítószer birtoklásával vádolták meg – közölte csütörtökön közleményben a riverside–i ügyészség.
„Ha más kábítószerekkel keveredik, a lefoglalt 21 kilogramm karfentanil több mint 50 millió ember megölésére lett volna elegendő“ – közölték a hatóságok. Morales és Ponce ellen csütörtökön emeltek vádat, azonban mindketten ártatlannak vallották magukat, ezért jelenleg a következő, november 9-re tervezett bírósági megjelenésükig fogva tartják őket, ahonnan óvadék ellenében sem szabadulhatnak.
