Elhangzott, hogy a hatósági akcióban az amerikai parti őrség további regionális parancsnokságainak járőrei, valamint az amerikai hadsereg és a belbiztonsági minisztérium alá tartozó egységek vettek részt.
A parancsnok megjegyezte, hogy az Egyesült Államok parti őrségének történetében is rekord a partra szállított kábítószer mennyisége, aminek értéke megközelíti a félmilliárd dollárt (473 millió dollár).
„A mintegy 30 tonna kokain összesen 23 millió potenciálisan halálos adagnak fele meg, ami elegendő lenne Florida állam teljes lakosságának halálát okozni túladagolás formájában” – fogalmazott Adam Chamie ellentengernagy, hozzátéve, hogy a kábítószer-kereskedelem ellen a tengeren végrehajtott beavatkozás a leghatékonyabb eszköz abban, hogy megakadályozzák a drog eljutását az állampolgárok közösségeihez.

„Az elfogásban részt vevő ügynökök és a parti őrség sikeresen partra szállította a tiltott csempészárut és felelősségre vonják a bűnösöket” – mondta Colin Weaver parancsnok-helyettes.
Az elfogott hat csempész ellen eljárást indítanak a szövetségi bíróságon.

Az illegális kábítószer-kereskedők felderítése és elfogása a nyílt tengeren jelentős erőfeszítéseket igényel.
