Peruban egy újságíró családját próbálták megfélemlíteni, amikor egy ismeretlen támadó égő dinamitot hajított az udvarukba.
A végzetesnek szánt akció azonban életmentéssé vált, mert a család kutyája, Machis – egy mindössze 11 kilós, cocker spániel keverék – villámgyorsan közbelépett, és eloltotta a robbanószerkezet kanócát.
Carlos Alberto Mesias Zarate újságíró elmondta, hogy inkább kutyája bátorsága, mint maga a fenyegetés lepte meg, hiszen az ilyen támadások „munkája részét képezik”. A biztonsági kamera felvételein látszik, ahogy egy feketébe öltözött alak áthajítja a szikrázó robbanószerkezetet a kertbe, majd elszalad. Machis azonnal leszaladt a lépcsőn, odarohant a sistergő dinamitdarabhoz, előbb az orrával lökdöste, majd beleharapott a kanócba.
A csoda ekkor történt meg: a gyújtózsinór a kutya szájában kialudt. A hatóságok később megállapították, hogy a robbanószerkezet „olyan típusú dinamit volt, amit aknákban is használnak”.„Rágta és rágta, és megmentette az életünket.” Az újságíró azonnal értesítette a rendőrséget, akik azóta őrizetbe vettek egy gyanúsítottat – ismertette a sztorit a New York Post.
Bár a család sértetlenül megúszta az esetet, Machis megsérült: a kanóc füstje és hője károsította a hangszálait, így az egykor éles ugatása helyett ma már csak rekedt hangot ad ki. „Most már nem hallani a hangját” – mondta Zarate.

A haditengerészet közlése szerint az ország 122 kikötőjéből több mint kétharmad zárva marad. A hatóságok folyamatosan figyelik a tenger állapotát, és a helyzet javulásáig fenntartják a korlátozásokat. A perui események mellett Mexikóban is súlyos időjárás pusztított a hétvégén.
Ott a heves esőzések következtében két ember meghalt, egy pedig eltűnt.
Querétaro állam kormányzója megerősítette a tragikus eseteket a helyi médiában. Az áradások Mexikóváros környékét is komolyan érintették. A Tribune szerint Mexikóvárosban, Latin-Amerika egyik legforgalmasabb repülőterének számító Benito Juarez nemzetközi repülőtéren szombaton rövid időre le kellett állítani a közlekedést a rossz látási viszonyok miatt.

Helyi idő szerint pénteken súlyos közlekedési baleset történt Peru középső részén, Junín megyében, ahol egy autóbusz balesete következtében legalább 18 ember életét vesztette, és körülbelül 30-an megsérültek.
Junín megye egészségügyi hatóságai szerint a gépjármű egy szakadékba zuhant, a halottak között pedig két gyerek is van – írja az MTI nyomán az Index. Az RPP perui rádió úgy tudja, több mint 60-an utaztak Limából a megyében található La Merced településre tartó buszon.
Az ügyben vizsgálat indult, a hatóságok szerint a balesetet feltehetően az okozta, hogy a sofőr túllépte a sebességkorlátozást.
Peruban gyakoriak a közlekedési balesetek, amelyek nagy részét a gyorshajtás okozza, emellett azonban az utak sem megfelelően karbantartottak, és sok helyen hiányoznak a jelzőtáblák is. A rendőrség adatai szerint tavaly több min 3100-an haltak meg az utakon.

A földrengés helyi idő szerint 11 óra 35 perckor történt, a Limától mintegy tíz kilométerre délnyugatra fekvő Callaó település környékén, a tengerparton fekvő várostól mintegy 30 kilométerre – közölte a perui szeizmológiai központ.
A rendőrség tájékoztatása szerint egy 36 éves férfi meghalt, mert a főváros Independencia kerületében egy fal rádőlt az autóra, amelyben utazott.
A helyi katasztrófavédelem arról is beszámolt, hogy 36 ember megsérült Limában, ők kórházba kerültek.

Tizenhárom bányászt találtak holtan egy perui aranybányában, miután néhány nappal korábban elrabolták őket – közölte a helyi sajtó és a hatóságok.
Az áldozatok a Poderosa bányavállalat alkalmazottai voltak, amely Peru északi részén, a Pataz tartományban működteti az egyik legnagyobb aranybányáját. Peru a világ egyik legnagyobb aranytermelője: évente több mint 100 tonna aranyat termel ki, ami a globális aranykínálat körülbelül 4%-át jelenti. A növekvő aranyárak és a gyenge állami ellenőrzés miatt azonban az illegális bányászat és a hozzá kapcsolódó erőszak egyre súlyosabb problémát jelent az ország számára – közölte a BBC.
A bányászokat egy illegális bányászattal foglalkozó szervezet ellen küldték ki, hogy fellépjenek a térségben tapasztalható jogellenes tevékenységek ellen, azonban egy fegyveres bűnbanda elrabolta őket, majd napokon át túszként tartották fogva őket egy bányaaknában.
A túszejtők fenyegető üzeneteket küldtek az áldozatok családtagjaiknak, mielőtt kivégezték volna őket.
A perui Diario Correo hírportál szerint egy közösségi médiában terjedő videó, amelyet feltehetően maguk az elkövetők készítettek, a kivégzés pillanatait is rögzítette. A felvételen látható, ahogy az áldozatokat közvetlen közelről lőtték le. A mészárlás indítékai egyelőre ismeretlenek.
A Poderosa vállalat közleményében csalódottságát fejezte ki, amiért a rendőrség és a hadsereg nem képes megfékezni az illegális bányászatot és a szervezett bűnözést a térségben. Mint írták, „a régióban tovább fokozódik az erőszak légköre”, az állam pedig nem tudja garantálni sem az alkalmazottak, sem a bányászok biztonságát.
A cég adatai szerint 2020 óta több bányájukat is elfoglalták bűnbandák, amelyekben robbantásos támadásokat is végrehajtottak, például márciusban, amikor felrobbantottak egy nagyfeszültségű tornyot, amely az aranybányákat látta el árammal. Ugyanebben a hónapban a bűnözők két embert is megöltek a Pataz kerületben, miközben megpróbáltak behatolni a vállalat működő bányaterületeire.
A vállalat szerint az illegális bányászat és az ahhoz kapcsolódó szervezett bűnözés „teljes büntetlenség” mellett tevékenykedhet az országban.

A baleset péntek este történt a Real Plaza bevásárlóközpontban Trujillóban, az ország harmadik legnépesebb városában, Limától mintegy 500 kilométerre északra – számolt az MTI-re hivatkozva az Index.
Walter Astudillo védelmi miniszter az állami Andina helyi hírügynökség által közölt nyilatkozata szerint hat ember meghalt, 78 másik pedig megsérült. A sérültek közül 48-an kerültek kórházba, köztük hárman súlyos állapotban.
A belügyminisztérium eredetileg három halálos áldozatról számolt be az X közösségi oldalon. Anibal Morillo, La Libertad tartomány egészségügyi igazgatója azt mondta, hogy a sérültek között tíz gyermek van.
A helyi média szerint több tucat család tartózkodott a Real Plaza éttermében, amikor a tető beomlott.
A tűzoltók és a rendőrök szombaton folytatták a mentési és keresési munkálatokat a helyszínen. A hatóságok még nem állapították meg a baleset okát a bevásárlóközpontban, amelyet a történtek után bezártak.

A baleset akkor történt, amikor a buszvezető, aki a régészeti lelőhelyet a közeli Aguas Calientes várossal összekötő kanyargós úton haladt, elvesztette uralmát a jármű felett, és egy 15 méteres lejtőn legurult. Legalább húsz turista – köztük mexikói, olasz, chilei és guatemalai állampolgárok – többszörös törésekkel került kórházba. A többiek testük különböző részein zúzódásokat szenvedtek. A sérültek között két japán és egy kínai állampolgár is volt.
A balesetről több videót is közzétettek a közösségi oldalakon a helyi lakosok.
A busz tulajdonosa, a Conssetur közlekedési vállalat a közösségi oldalakra feltett közleménye szerint a jármű akkor szenvedett közlekedési balesetet „figyelmetlenség miatt”, amikor Machu Picchuból tartott visszafelé. A rendőrség vizsgálatot indított a baleset okának megállapítására – tette hozzá a cég. A Machu Picchu naponta átlagosan 4,5 ezer látogatót fogad. Az 1983 óta a világörökség része, a Cuzcotól 130 kilométerre, 2438 méteres magasságban fekvő fellegvárat a 15. században építették Pachacutec inka császár (1438–1470) parancsára.
