A Srí Lanka-i vámhatóság közlése szerint a szerzetesek bőröndjeiben összesen 242 fontnyi, vagyis csaknem 110 kilogramm Kush nevű, erős kannabiszfajtát találtak.
A drogot nem egyszerűen a csomagokba tették: a hatóságok szerint a kábítószert a bőröndök álrekeszeibe rejtették. Egy szóvivő azt mondta, mindegyik szerzetes nagyjából öt kilogramm kábítószert vitt magával.

Halálos baleset történt hétfőn Srí Lankán, amikor egy sétáló magyar házaspárra rontott egy elefánt. A hatalmas állat támadása után a férfi olyan súlyosan megsérült, hogy már nem tudták megmenteni az életét. A halálos baleset a Pidurangala–Sigiriya térségben történt, az ország egyik legfelkapottabb turisztikai célpontjában.
Az elefántok általában békés állatok, ha nem érzik magukat fenyegetve, azonban erre sajnálatos módon hétfőn a támadó állat rácáfolt. A Blikk beszámolója szerint a 64 éves férfi és felesége éppen sétáltak a dzsungelhez közeli területen, amikor az elefánt rájuk rontott.
A férfit kórházba szállították, de az életét már nem tudták megmenteni.
Az említett tájékon rizsföldek, falvak, kisebb szálláshelyek és sűrű dzsungel váltják egymást, így az emberek és az elefántok útjai gyakran keresztezik egymást, ami növeli a váratlan találkozások esélyét.
Farkas Miklós idegenvezető elmondta: „Azon a környéken, ahol az eset történt, sok nemzeti park található. Az elefántok szabadon mozognak, nem tudhatják, hol vannak a parkok határai. A Minneriya Nemzeti Park és a Hurulu Eco Park környékén több mint háromezer elefánt él vadon.”
Az idegenvezető szerint a kísérő nélküli magányos séták különösen veszélyesek lehetnek. Hasonló baleset 2024-ben egy kanadai turistával történt ugyanitt, miután letért a biztonságos útvonalról. A legutóbbi elefánttámadás a környéken az előző héten következett be, amikor is vad elefántok csörtettek be egy Srí Lanka keleti részén fekvő városba és környékére, ahol emberekre támadtak és komoly károkat okoztak. A tragédia során egy 68 éves nő életét vesztette, három további ember pedig megsérült.

Hét buddhista szerzetes, köztük három külföldi vesztette életét egy siklóbalesetben Srí Lankán. A szerzetesek a Srí Lanka északnyugati részén, Colombótól 125 kilométerre lévő Na Uyana erdei kolostorból indultak útnak szerdán este, mert egy hegyre akartak feljutni, hogy ott meditáljanak.
Komoly tragédia rázta meg Srí Lankát, szerzetesek haltak meg egy siklóbalesetben.
A rendőrség közlése szerint a siklón 13 szerzetes utazott.
Az első megállapítások szerint a szerelvényt tartó drótkötél elszakadt, és a kocsi nagy sebességgel száguldott le a lejtőn, majd kisiklott és egy fába csapódott.
A baleset Srí Lanka északnyugati részén, Colombótól 125 kilométerre lévő Na Uyanában történt. A férfiak a helyi erdei kolostorból indultak útnak, egy hegyre akartak feljutni, hogy ott meditáljanak. A halálos áldozatok között volt egy indiai, egy orosz és egy román szerzetes is. További négy utas súlyosan, két szerzetes pedig könnyebben sérült meg a balesetben.

Szakadékba zuhant egy busz Srí Lanka középső részén, a balesetben legalább 21 ember maghalt és 24-en megsérültek – közölte vasárnap a dél-ázsiai ország kormánya.
A közlekedésiminiszter-helyettes beszámolója szerint az 50 férőhelyes buszon 70 ember utazhatott, és a sofőr éjszaka elveszítette uralmát a jármű fölött. „Egy kanyarban a jármű balra dőlt, és amikor a vezető kormányozni próbált, nem tudta irányítani, majd a busz a mélybe zuhant” – magyarázta egy szemtanú a helyi sajtónak.
A helyi rendőrség azt vizsgálja, hogy a busznak volt-e műszaki hibája, esetleg a sofőr elaludt-e vezetés közben.
A busz a szigetország déli részéből indult, Kataragamából és a 250 kilométerre lévő Kurunegalába tartott. Srí Lanka útjain évente mintegy 3000 ember veszíti életét baleset miatt.

A Sri Lanka-i légierő (SLAF) számolt be a tragikus incidensről, melynek több áldozata is van, katonák az elhunytak.
Egyelőre annyit tudni, hogy egy katonai helikopter csapódott be, miközben kényszerleszállást próbált végrehajtani egy meghibásodás miatt. Összesen tizenkét fő volt a fedélzeten, akik közül hatan olyan súlyosan megsérültek, hogy már nem lehetett rajtuk segíteni.
Az Adaderana arról számolt be, hogy a hadseregtől és a légierőtől is hatan tartózkodtak a gépen, köztük a két pilótával. „A Hingurakgodában állomásozó SLAF 07. század helikoptere reggel szállt fel a helyi légibázisról, feladata pedig az volt, hogy elszállítsa a katonákat, a különleges erők búcsúfelvonulásán tartott bemutatójukra a Maduru Oya hadseregképző iskolába.” – írja a Magyar Nemzet a cikkében.
Egy kötéllel való ereszkedés bemutatója közben lépett fel a technikai probléma, ami kényszerleszállásra kényszerítette a pilótákat. Mindez nem sokkal a felszállást követően történt, majd egy víztározónak ütköztek, ami végzetesnek bizonyult.
Ugyan mind a tizenkét személyt kimentették és kórházba szállították, hat katona belehalt a sérüléseibe. Úgy tudni, hogy négyen a hadsereg különleges erőinek tagjai voltak, míg ketten a légierőnél szolgáltak.

Srí Lankán a hadsereg egyik helikoptere pénteken egy víztározóba zuhant, a fedélzeten tartózkodó hat fős biztonsági személyzet életét vesztette. A két pilótának sikerült időben katapultálnia – közölte a hadsereg szóvivője, számolt be a MTI nyomán a hirado.hu.
A Bell 212 típusú helikopteren összesen 12-en utaztak, amikor az ország keleti részén lévő Maduru Oja nemzeti parkban lezuhant. A tájékoztatás szerint a tragédiát feltehetően műszaki hiba okozta.
Néhány héttel ezelőtt a hadsereg egy másik repülőgépe is lezuhant az ország középső részén.
