Elfogták szerda este Londonban azt a gyanúsítottat, aki a rendőrség feltételezése szerint megölte a BBC rádió vezető lovassport-kommentátora, John Hunt feleségét és két lányát.
A 61 éves Carol Hunt, a 28 éves Hannah Hunt és a 25 éves Louise Hunt a rendőrség szerdai tájékoztatása szerint előző éjjel vesztette életét számszeríj és valószínűleg egyéb fegyverek okozta sérülések miatt a család északnyugat-londoni otthonában.
A Scotland Yard a hármas gyilkosság ügyében egy 26 éves, Kyle Clifford nevű gyanúsított ellen adott ki körözést.
Cliffordot hatalmas kiterjedésű hajtóvadászat után, szerda este az észak-londoni Enfield kerületben fegyveres rendőri egységek őrizetbe vették.
A rendőrségi tájékoztatás szerint a gyanúsítottat sérülten találták meg és orvosi ellátásban részesítették. Sérüléseinek okát és súlyosságát a közlemény nem részletezi, de azt leszögezi, hogy az elfogás közben nem történt rendőrségi fegyverhasználat.
A rendőrség még az őrizetbe vétel előtt közölte, hogy Cliffordnál valószínűleg fegyverek vannak, és kérte, hogy ha valaki a közreadott fotó alapján felismerni véli a gyanúsítottat, ne közelítse meg, hanem a sürgősségi telefonszámon értesítse a hatóságokat.
A brit védelmi minisztérium szerdán megerősítette azokat a médiaértesüléseket, hogy Clifford 2022-ben rövid ideig a brit hadsereg katonája volt.
Az 58 éves John Hunt, aki korábban a rendőrség kötelékében szolgált, két évtizede a főleg sport- és közéleti műsorokra szakosodott BBC 5 Live rádióállomás lóverseny-közvetítéseinek vezető szakkommentátora.
Számszeríj birtoklásához a jelenlegi brit törvények alapján nem szükséges fegyvertartási engedély, de ilyen fegyverekkel sem lehet közterületen tartózkodni.
Az előző, konzervatív párti brit kormány azonban már megkezdte azt a törvényi felülvizsgálatot, amelynek célja az, hogy a jövőben a számszeríjak birtoklására is kiterjesszék a lőfegyverek tartásához hasonló rendkívül szigorú szabályozást.
Ennek közvetlen előzményeként 2021 karácsonyán a rendőrség elfogott egy számszeríjjal felfegyverkezett férfit a királyi család windsori rezidenciájának nyilvánosan nem látogatható részén, az akkori uralkodó, II. Erzsébet királynő lakosztályának közelében.
Az incidens időpontjában II. Erzsébet és legalább húsz családtagja is a windsori kastélyban tartózkodott, köztük a néhai uralkodó három fia, Károly akkori trónörökös – aki édesanyja 2022-ben bekövetkezett halála után III. Károly néven lépett trónra –, valamint András yorki herceg és Eduárd, Wessex grófja.
Elfogása után a behatoló, az akkor 21 éves Jaswant Singh Chail bevallotta a rendőröknek, hogy a királynőt akarta meggyilkolni.
Chailt tavaly októberben kilenc év szabadságvesztésre ítélték.

Egy nőt fejen, egy férfit pedig nyakon lőtt számszeríjjal valakit a brit fővárosban, a két eset kapcsolódik.
Két embert is számszeríjjal lőtt meg egy támadó Londonban – írja a BBC. Az első áldozat egy 44 éves nő volt, akit március 4-én talált fejen egy számszeríjlövedék. A második áldozat egy húszéves férfi volt, aki a nyakán sérült meg. A két helyszín mindössze 60 méterre van egymástól, ezért a rendőrség szerint ugyanaz lehetett az elkövető.
Mindkét áldozatot kórházba szállították, szerencsére nem szenvedtek életveszélyes sérüléseket, és már mindkettőjüket hazaengedték.
A rendőrség közölte, hogy igyekeznek minél hamarabb megtalálni a gyanúsítottat, és annyi erőforrást mozgósítani ehhez, amennyit csak lehet.
