A tulaj elmondta, hogy az elmúlt estén leparkolt a ház előtt, reggel pedig szomszédja hívta fel, s közölte, hogy a ház előtt álló Skoda Octavia lángol.
A hatóságok letartóztatták a 38 éves büntetett előéletű tettest, akire akár 10 évig tartó szabadságvesztés is várhat.

Műszaki problémák miatt folyton megállt volna a felvonó, ezért egyszerűen kiiktatták a féket az üzemeltetők – derült ki az olaszországi felvonóbaleset ügyében tartott rendőrségi kihallgatáson. A kabin emiatt nem tudott megállni, amikor az egyik kötele elpattant.
Nem egyszerű feledékenységből, hanem szándékosan iktatták ki annak a felvonókabinnak a fékjét, amely vasárnap délelőtt zuhant le Olaszországban. A Corriere információi alapján a HVG azt írja, hogy a Maggiore-tó partjáról a Mottarone-hegyre közlekedő felvonó az április 26-i újraindítás óta (korábban a járványhelyzet miatt nem járt) kikapcsolt vészfékkel járt. A vészféket szándékosan, egy villa behelyezésével inaktiválta az üzemeltető – tette ezt azért, hogy elkerülje, hogy a felvonó a működése közben jelentkező különféle rendellenességek nyomán aktiválódó biztonsági protokoll miatt folyton automatikusan leálljon.
Vasárnap, miközben a kabin tizenöt emberrel a fedélzetén a fenti célállomástól már csak pár méterre volt, a vontatókötél elszakadt, a kabin tizenöt utassal a fedélzetén elkezdett a szállítókötélen visszafelé csúszni. 300 métert tett meg, a végén 100 km/h-s sebességre felgyorsulva, ez a szállítókötelet is kiakasztotta a helyéről, és a kabin a földre zuhant. Az utasok közül csak egy ötéves gyermek maradt életben, állapota súlyos.
Az elmúlt két napban már kiderült, hogy a fék nem működött, de eddig annak az esélye is fennállt, hogy csak figyelmetlenségből felejtették a fékszerkezetben a fékműködést blokkoló villát. Miután a szándékosság kiderült, az olasz hatóságok tizenkét órás kihallgatás után három embert vettek őrizetbe: Luigi Nerinit, a felvonót kezelő mottaronei vasúttársaság tulajdonosát, Gabriele Tardini igazgatót és Enrico Perocchio operatív vezetőt. Olimpia Bossi ügyész azt mondta a Repubblica cikke szerint, hogy a vezetők szándékosan, üzleti megfontolásból hozták meg a döntést május elején, miközben a liftnek nem lett volna szabad működnie. A három őrizetbe vett vezetőt emberöléssel, gondatlanságból okozott súlyos testi sértéssel (a túlélő gyermekkel szemben), illetve munkahelyi baleset megelőzését célzó óvintézkedés kiiktatásával gyanúsítják.

A világhírű argentin futballista novemberi halála miatt a rendőrség tavaly gondatlanságból elkövetett emberölés vádjában indított vizsgálatot. A május 20-án felszínre került információk alapján a vádat szándékosan elkövetett emberölésre módosították – olvasható a New York Post oldalán.
Az orvosi bizottság vizsgálata után megállapították, hogy Maradona orvosi csapata figyelmen kívül hagyta az egykori sportoló életveszélyére utaló jeleket.
A vád alá helyezett hét gyanúsított között van Leopoldo Luque is, aki kevesebb, mint két héttel az argentin legenda november 25-i halála előtt agyi műtétet hajtott végre a 60 éves futballcsillagon, hogy eltávolítsa a vérrögöt az agyából.
Rajta kívül még hat embert vádol az ügyészség, köztük két orvost és négy nővért. Amennyiben bűnösnek találják a vádlottakat, akár 8-tól 25 évig tartó szabadságvesztéssel is sújthatja őket a bíróság.
A bírósági eljárást Maradona lányai indítványozták Luque és a többi hat vádlott ellen, akiket az apjuk agyi műtétje utáni romló állapotáért vádoltak.
Az orvos értetlenül áll a vádak előtt, szerinte ő mindent megtett azért, hogy Maradona meggyógyulhasson.
„Szeretnék tudni, hogy miben vagyok bűnös? Abban, hogy szerettem, gondoztam és meghosszabbítottam az életét” – nyilatkozta az agysebész, miután helyi újságírók armadája szállta meg az irodáját.
