A közlemény szerint egy ukrán Mi–24-es helikopter személyzete életét vesztette egy harci bevetés végrehajtása közben – számolt be az esetről a The Kyiv Independent.
A dandár tájékoztatása szerint a helikopter személyzete nem tért vissza a bevetésről, a veszteséget pedig hatalmas tragédiaként jellemezték az egység számára.
„Ez a veszteség óriási fájdalom” – írta a dandár a halálesetekről szóló közleményében. A bejegyzés kifejezte a legmélyebb részvétet az elhunytak családjainak és szeretteinek, a személyzetet pedig úgy jellemezte, mint akik mélyen elkötelezettek voltak szolgálatuk és Ukrajna iránt.
Szerették az eget és Ukrajnát – áll a közleményben, hozzátéve, hogy az elesett katonák „örökre az égben maradnak”.

Amikor a légitársaság felhívta az alkalmazottat, ő azt mondta, egy másik városban van, majd elérhetetlenné vált. A PIA akkor azt mondta, vizsgálatot indított az ügyben, és meg fogja tenni a megfelelő lépéseket, de azóta nincsenek újabb hírek az eset kapcsán.
A légitársaság szóvivője elmondta, hogy értesítették a kanadai bevándorlási hatóságokat, emellett a cég új irányelvet vezetett be, eszerint pedig a legénység útlevelét a kirendeltségvezető tartja magánál az ott tartózkodás ideje alatt, és csak akkor adja vissza, amikor a legénység becsekkol az induló járatra.
