Національна метеорологічна служба зафіксувала температуру у Долині Смерті в Каліфорнії в суботу на рівні 54 градусів, що, в разі підтвердження, стане одним з найвищих показників, коли-небудь зареєстрованих на Землі.
Температура поверхонь була ще вища. Один з рейнджерів зафіксував, що асфальт у центрі для відвідувачів нагрівся до +81,1 градуса.
Така спека поширилася на більшу частину Північного Заходу США.
Метеослужба США видала попередження про небезпеку спеки, особливо для дітей і літніх людей.
Наразі спека вже призвела до проблем в електромережах і спровокувала лісові пожежі, зокрема, в Південному Орегоні, де під загрозою опинилися 1,2 тис. домівок та інших будівель.
