A kaliforniai 9. kerületi fellebbviteli bíróság arra kötelezte a nőt, hogy fizessen meg a volt elnöknek további 121 ezer dollárnyi jogi költségét, amely a nő sikertelen rágalmazási pere során merült fel. Ehhez jönnek még a Trump javára hozott korábbi ítéletek költségei is, amelyek összességében körülbelül 500 ezer dollárt tettek ki, vagyis a felnőttfilmes már körülbelül 600 ezer dollárral tartozik Trumpnak jogi költségek címén.
Daniels a Trump elleni rágalmazási pert még 2018-ban indította el, miután az akkori elnök „totális átverésnek” minősítette a pornószínésznő vallomása által felállított férfi fantomképét, aki a nő állítása szerint megpróbálta megfélemlíteni őt a 76 éves politikussal folytatott feltételezett viszonyával kapcsolatban.

Donald Trump mind a harmincnégy ellene felhozott vádpontban tagadta bűnösségét a magyar idő szerint kedden este, New Yorkban megtartott ügyészségi meghallgatásán, amely során kampányfinanszírozási szabályok megsértésével vádolták. A korábbi amerikai elnök politikai boszorkányüldözésnek, valamint a 2024-es választásokba való beavatkozásnak tartja az ügyet.
A New York Manhattan városrészében – az amerikai exelnök tulajdonában álló és a nevét viselő Trump Tower irodaépülettől nem messze – megtartott tárgyaláson harmincnégy vádpontot soroltak fel Donald Trump ellen, aki akár 136 év éves börtönbüntetést is kaphat.
Trumpot a kampányfinanszírozási szabályok megsértésével vádolták, ezek szerint 2016-ban a kampány során – ügyvédjén keresztül – pénzt juttatott el Stormy Daniels felnőttfilmesnek annak érdekében, hogy a nő a nyilvánosság előtt hallgasson a közötte és Trump között feltételezett korábbi intim együttlétről.
A hetvenhat éves politikustól, aki önként jelent meg a bíróság előtt, ujjlenyomatot is vettek, mielőtt megkezdődött volna a zárt ajtók mögötti meghallgatása.
Trump szürreálisnak nevezte az ügyet, és korábban Truth Social nevű platformján azt írta: „Atyaég! Letartóztattak. Hihetetlen számomra, hogy az Egyesült Államokban mindez megtörténhet.”
Trump megfogalmazása szerint „az egyetlen bűn, amit elkövetett az, hogy megfélemlíthetetlenül védelmezi az országot azoktól, akik el akarják pusztítani”.
Az egyórás bírósági meghallgatást követően Trump nem válaszolt a sajtó kérdéseire. A bíróság épületéből kilépve beszállt egy fekete autóba, amely a New York-i LaGuardia nemzetközi repülőtérre szállította, ahonnan floridai birtokára repült.
Juan Merchan szövetségi bíró a következő tárgyalási napot 2023. december 4-re tűzte ki, a további tárgyalás pedig 2024. januárjában kezdődhet, amely egybeesik az amerikai előválasztások kezdetével.
