A rendőrség tájékoztatása szerint a jármű vezetője feltehetően műszaki hiba miatt elvesztette uralmát a busz felett.

A mentők a sérülteket három helyi kórházba vitték. A rendőrség közlése szerint több felnőtt férfi és számos gyerek súlyosan megsérült. A balesetben eddig 21 halálos áldozatot erősítettek meg: 20 diák és egy felnőtt férfi vesztette életét.
Az ugandai rendőrség részvétét fejezte ki az áldozatok családjainak, az iskola vezetésének és minden érintettnek, a sérülteknek pedig mielőbbi felépülést kívánt.

Ugandában január 30-án jelentették be a legújabb járványkitörést.
Az ugandai egészségügyi minisztérium szombati közleménye szerint a járvány hivatalos lezárását az tette lehetővé, hogy 42 nap telt el új eset nélkül az utolsó beteg hazaengedése óta.
A minisztérium nem közölte, hogy a járvány kitörése óta összesen hányan kapták el a kórt és mennyien haltak meg. Március elején, amikor a minisztérium utoljára számolt be az esetszámról, azt közölte, hogy legalább tízen fertőzödtek meg és ketten meghaltak.

A férfit azzal vádolták, hogy szeptember 1-jén benzinnel leöntötte és felgyújtotta a 33 éves Cheptegeit, amikor hazatért két gyerekével a templomból. A futónő testének nyolcvan százaléka megégett, a kórház intenzív osztályán kezelték, de négy nappal a támadás után belehalt sérüléseibe. Volt barátját, és egyben támadóját is ugyanott kezelték, a férfi testének 30 százaléka égett meg.
