Már több mint 4000 kolerás esetet jelentettek az egészségügyi hatóságok Zambiából, ahol tavaly január óta 124 halálos áldozatot követelt a fertőző betegség.
A zambiai egészségügyi minisztérium hétfőn közzétett adatai szerint a megelőző 24 órában 257 új kolerás esetet jelentettek, és nyolc ember vesztette életét.
A járvány tavaly januárban tört ki, és az azóta eltelt egy évben a megbetegedettek száma 4162-ra nőtt. Az elmúlt évben a hétfői nyolc beteggel együtt 124-en vesztették életüket a ragályos betegség miatt.
Kolerás megbetegedéseket eddig az ország tíz tartománya közül ötből jelentettek. A legtöbb Lusakában, az ország fővárosában történt.
A betegség halálos kimenetelű is lehet
Az Egészségügyi Világszervezet szerint 2022-ben mintegy 470 ezer kolerás esetet regisztráltak világszerte. Összehasonlításul: ezek száma 2021-ben még 220 ezer volt.
A WHO 2023-ban is felhívta a figyelmet a kolerás megbetegedések számának globális emelkedésére. Tavaly összesen 24 országban volt járvány. A betegség halálos kimenetelű is lehet, ha nem kezelik időben.
A kolera megjelenése szorosan kapcsolódik a nem megfelelő ivóvízellátáshoz, a szegénységhez és a fegyveres konfliktusokhoz.
