Раніше використання дезінфікуючих засобів для рук заборонили в американських в’язницях, через побоювання, що ув’язнені його вживатимуть через вміст алкоголю.
Крім того, влада попереджала не використовувати засоби для дезінфекції рук виробництва мексиканської компанії, оскільки він містить метанол, який може бути токсичним, навіть якщо він потрапляє в організм через шкіру. Яку марку дезінфікуючого засобу пили ці семеро людей – невідомо.
Подібні приклади вже були в Ірані, де 300 людей померло, а тисячі захворіли, бо намагалися таким чином захиститися від коронавірусу.
