У четвер був заарештований 42-річний чоловік, якого підозрюють у тому, що він спричинив пожежу, з’їхавши на палаючому автомобілі в яр.
На кадрах, отриманих ВВС, видно, як вогняне торнадо –вихор полум’я і попелу, створений високою температурою та вітром, – проноситься Каліфорнією.
Вогонь змусив провести евакуацію в місті Бютте, де у2018 році сталася найбільш смертоносна пожежа в Каліфорнії – «Кемп-Файр», що забрала життя понад 80 людей. Жителів Кохассета, кількість яких сягає 400 осіб, уже переселили, оскільки вогонь вийшов з-під контролю.
«Евакуація триває, адже пожежа продовжує розростатися», – заявила в четвер Меган МакКенн з офісу шерифа округу Б’ютт. «Ми отримали допомогу від десяти різних правоохоронних та пожежних служб», – додала вона.
Пожежна служба Каліфорнії повідомила, що палають уже 34 будівлі, ще 4200 залишаються в зоні ризику. З моменту виникнення пожежі в середу її площа зростає в геометричній прогресії: з приблизно 1400 гектарів поблизу Чіко до 45 500 гектарів у четвер, наступного дня площа пожежі збільшилася втричі.
Національна метеорологічна служба оголосила червоний рівень небезпеки для північної частини долини Сакраменто, попередивши, що сильний вітер і низька вологість у п’ятницю можуть призвести до «виникнення нових пожеж та збільшення площі й інтенсивності вже існуючих до небезпечних розмірів».
Однак найбільша лісова пожежа в США виникла в штаті Орегон, де вже згоріло щонайменше 240 000 гектарів, вигоріли ферми, загинули сотні голів худоби.
Канада також бореться з великими лісовими пожежами. Одна з них знищила половину міста Джаспер в Альберті йчастину Національного парку в цьому регіоні. На щастя, уп’ятницю сотням пожежників у боротьбі з вогнем допоміг дощ.

Кілька людей загинуло і щонайменше десять отримали травми у Грінфілді, штат Айова, через торнадо. Відтак кількість загиблих внаслідок несприятливих погодних умов, які призвели до загибелі восьми людей на півдні та в центральній частині Сполучених Штатів у травні, зросла.
Торнадо зруйнував житлові будинки, автомобілі, вирвав із корінням дерева в невеликому містечку з населенням близько 2 тисяч осіб, розташованому за 90 кілометрів на південний захід від столиці штату, Де-Мойн, практично знищивши більшу частину населеного пункту. Влада Айови інформує, що підрахунок постраждалих від стихії жителів ще триває, тому точна кількість загиблих поки не повідомляється.

Протягом дня торнадо утворилося в кількох частинах штату. Один із них повалив 76-метрову вітряну турбіну в південно-західній частині штату Айова. Ще кілька вітрогенераторів загорілися. Силу вітру підтверджує й те, що ці вітрові електростанції побудовані таким чином, щоб протистояти торнадо, ураганам та іншим сильним вітрам.
Повідомлення про збитки від торнадо, граду, сильних дощів і пилових бур надійшли і з Небраски, Іллінойса та Колорадо. Попередження про торнадо були оголошені і в частині штату Вісконсін. Сильні шторми та дощі прогнозуються також у Міннесоті, Техасі, Оклахомі, Арканзасі та Міссурі.

Зокрема шторм у невеликому містечку Ковінгтон „викликав торнадо, які з’являлися і зникали протягом години”.
У США зафіксовано щонайменше 16 торнадо в Айові, Небрасці, Канзасі, Оклахомі, Теннессі та Південній Дакоті, є відомості про одного загиблого. Про це у вівторок, 7 травня, повідомляє ABC News.
Центр прогнозування штормів NOAA в Нормані, штат Оклахома, оголосив у понеділок вдень і ввечері про найвищий з можливих рівнів попередження про небезпеку щодо численних інтенсивних торнадо з довгими траєкторіями.
Увечері торнадо були помічені на півночі Оклахоми. Як повідомляє Національна метеорологічна служба, шторм у невеликому містечку Ковінгтон „викликав торнадо, які з’являлися і зникали протягом години”.
Найбільш руйнівним виявився шторм у містечку Барнсдолл з населенням 1000 осіб у штаті Оклахома. Торнадо зруйнував будинки, повалив дерева і лінії електропередач. Саме там загинула людина.
У місті Талса торнадо супроводжувався поривами вітру до 112 км/год. Було пошкоджено щонайменше 40 будинків, а також пошкодження зазнав будинок для людей похилого віку, його мешканців евакуювали. Також повідомляється про витік природного газу і численні перекриття доріг через завали.
У Канзасі в деяких районах випав град діаметром 7,6 см.
За прогнозами синоптиків, весь тиждень буде штормовим на всій території США, а основний удар негоди до кінця тижня припаде на схід і південь країни. Йдеться зокрема про Індіанаполіс, Мемфіс, Нешвілл, Сент-Луїс і Цинциннаті.

Ще один торнадо обрушився на східну частину Омахи, пройшовши через аеродром Епплі, частину міського аеропорту. Щонайменше одна людина загинула, ще кілька отримали травми внаслідок шторму, що пронісся південними штатами США. Десятеро людей були доставлені в лікарню після торнадо в Луїзіані. Техас також постраждав від торнадо, а ціле село в східній частині штату стало недоступним через раптові повені.
Надзвичайно сильні шторми пронеслися найпівденнішим штатом США.
Пошкоджено багато будівель, понад сто тисяч людей залишилися без електропостачання.
Ще серйознішою проблемою стала повінь у східній частині штату. Метеорологічна служба видала попередження про грозу, сильний град і руйнівний вітер у Техасі. Затопило кілька населених пунктів, багатьох людей довелося рятувати із затоплених осель. Кілька ділянок доріг перекрили.
Подібна ситуація трапилася і в Луїзіані, яка одночасно постраждала і від сильного вітру, і від повеней. Штатом пронеслися два торнадо.
Кілька будинків обрушилися, значної шкоди завдали повалені дерева та обірвані лінії електропередач.
У школах через повені призупинено навчання. В одному з населених пунктів тільки за одну годину випало 30 сантиметрів опадів. Багатьох людей доставили в лікарню.
Негода пронеслася і по інших штатах.
У Міссісіпі, де негода триває кілька днів, пошкоджено понад 70 будівель, одна людина загинула.
Влада попередила також про імовірність повеней.
За даними метеорологічної служби, негода ще триватиме, оскільки фронт просувається на північ, де також очікуються шторми.

У п’ятницю рано-вранці зона урагану охопила частини штатів Огайо, Кентуккі, Арканзас та Індіана. Три людини загинули через торнадо в окрузі Логан, на північний захід від столиці Огайо, Колумбуса, у районі озера Індіан-Лейк. Один із тих, хто вижив, повідомив, що йому, аби пережити стихійне лихо, довелося залізти у ванну.
У п’ятницю рятувальні підрозділи з собаками шукали загиблих та тих, хто вижив. Співробітники місцевої лікарні повідомили, що їм довелося надати допомогу 25 особам у місті Бельфонтен, більшість потерпілих мали переломи та внутрішні травми.
За словами очевидців, торнадо почав вирувати через 10 хвилин після звуку сирен, тож було дуже мало часу на підготовку.
У Вінчестері, штат Індіана, поранень зазнали 38 людей, троє з них перебувають у критичному стані. Мер повідомив, що в місті було зруйновано або серйозно пошкоджено 130 будинків і ресторан. Буревій завдав значної шкоди і в інших районах штату.
У місті Мілтон, штат Кентуккі, уламки, підняті торнадо, впали на автомобілі, унаслідок чого зазнали поранень двоє людей. У муніципалітеті були значно пошкоджені близько сотні будівель.
Повідомлялося також про торнадо в штатах Іллінойс і Міссурі.

Сувора зимова погода, яка простежується по всій Америці, принесла у вівторок сильний сніг, дощ і торнадо, причому дощ продовжиться у східній частині країни, а на Тихоокеанському північному заході триватимуть сильні снігопади.
У вівторок буревії і торнадо спустошили південну частину країни: за повідомленнями місцевої влади та ЗМІ, щонайменше три людини загинули в Алабамі, Північній Кароліні та Джорджії. Торнадо завдали серйозної шкоди у Флориді.
Національна метеорологічна служба (NWS) повідомила про сильні дощі та вітрові бурі на східному узбережжі у вівторок, які, за прогнозами, продовжаться і в середу. На північному сході прогнозується більше семи сантиметрів опадів, а в деяких регіонах на вихідних випав великий сніг, що збільшило ризик повеней.
Буревії у вівторок спричинили знеструмлення понад 418 000 будинків і підприємств у 12 штатах по всій країні.
Прогноз погоди на середу передбачав морозну і сніжну погоду на Середньому Заході і в районі Великих озер, а на Східному узбережжі також очікуються вітровали і до 20 дюймів снігу. Однак, із плином дня шторм буде повільно переміщатися, і очікується, що в регіоні потеплішає.
Проте, на північному заході і надалі триватиме штормова погода, а в четвер – ще й із сильними снігопадами.

Негода в штаті Теннессі вбила щонайменше шістьох людей у суботу та спричинила, за оцінками місцевих екстрених служб, значні збитки: десятки тисяч жителів залишилися без світла.
Офіс шерифа округу Монтгомері повідомив про пошкодження кількох будинків у місті Кларксвілл. У містечку Дрезден шторм також повалив багато дерев, пошкодив лінії електропередач і будинки.

Експерти оцінили торнадо як EF2, помірний рівень зі швидкістю вітру, що досягає від 138 до 177 км на годину.
Влада заявила, що 15 постраждалих госпіталізовано, їх життю нічого не загрожує. Влада повідомила також, що загалом було пошкоджено 283 сільські будинки та 32 овочеві теплиці, і ситуація в постраждалих районах вивчається.
