Országszerte folytatódtak a tüntetések a katonai hatalomátvétel ellen Mianmarban: a biztonsági erők könnygázzal és villanógránátokkal oszlatták fel a tömeget Rangunban szombaton.
Ugyancsak megmozdulások voltak Mjitkjinában, az északi Kacsin székhelyén, valamint az ország déli részén található Mjeikben, ahol a rendőrség könnygázt vetett be a tiltakozó diákok ellen. A Mianmar délkeleti részén található Davejben, a keleti részén található Kjaiktóban és Lojkavban, valamint Mjingjanban is újból utcára vonultak az emberek.
Lojkavban több százan tüntettek, köztük tanárok. A tiltakozók polgári engedetlenségre szólították fel a lakosságot transzparenseiken.
A tüntetésekkel egy időben kezdődött polgári engedetlenségi mozgalom megbénította a bankszektort, az államigazgatást és az egészségügyet. A katonai junta felszólította az állami alkalmazottakat, hogy térjenek vissza a munkába, különben március 8-tól elbocsátják őket.
Eközben a Vöröskereszt és Vörös félhold Társaságok Nemzetközi Szövetsége az egészségügyi dolgozók és az önkéntesek védelmére szólította fel a helyi hatóságokat. A közösségi médiában nyilvánosságra került egy térfigyelő kamera felvétele, amelyen mentősöket ütlegelnek brutálisan Rangunban, miután őrizetbe vették őket.
Mélységes szomorúsággal vettük tudomásul, hogy a mianmari vöröskereszt önkéntesei megsérültek, miközben szolgálatot végeztek, és elsősegélyt nyújtottak a sebesülteknek az emberségesség, semlegesség és pártatlanság alapelveivel összhangban – írta a szövetség, hangsúlyozva, hogy hasonló eseteknek nem szabadna előfordulniuk.
Mianmarban egy hónapja szabadultak el az indulatok azt követően, hogy a hadsereg február 1-jén magához ragadta a hatalmat, és őrizetbe vette az ország de facto vezetőjét, a belpolitikai tevékenységéért Nobel-békedíjas Aung Szan Szú Kjít, valamint pártja, a Nemzeti Liga a Demokráciáért (NLD) több magas rangú tisztségviselőjét. A katonaság azt állítja, hogy a tavaly novemberi választáson az NLD csalással nyert.
A hadsereg puccsa megakasztotta a hozzávetőleg 50 éves katonai uralmat követő demokratikus reformokat. Százezrek vonultak utcára a hatalomátvétel ellen tiltakozva. A nyugati országok közül több korlátozott szankciókat vezetett be a katonai rezsim ellen.
A puccs óta legalább 54 halálos áldozata volt a rendvédelmi erők és tüntetők összecsapásainak, és 1522 embert vettek őrizetbe, köztük politikusokat, újságírókat, aktivistákat és szerzeteseket. Ezerkétszáztizenöten továbbra is börtönben raboskodnak – közölte egy, a politikai foglyok kiszabadításáért dolgozó szervezet.
