Нападники, які прибули на мотоциклах, вбили вісім осіб. За словами місцевого чиновника, шістдесят осіб – переважно жінок і дітей – були викрадені.

Розпочато розслідування. Генеральний прокурор Абдубакі Адам-Бонгле заявив, що полум’я повністю знищило будівлю.
Контрабанда пального є поширеним явищем на кордоні між Беніном і Нігерією, але контрабандистам часто не вдається зберігати дешеве пальне з Нігерії, тому пожежі є поширеним явищем.

Ісламісти вбили 25 мирних жителів у північно-східному штаті Борно Нігерії, – повідомила місцева поліція.
За даними правоохоронців, вбивства у двох селах поблизу кордону з Чадом скоїли бойовики місцевого осередку терористичної організації «Ісламська держава» (ISWAP). В одному населеному пункті екстремісти вбили 18 пастухів, які випасали худобу, а в іншому – ще семеро людей.
Один зі свідків повідомив, що ісламісти обезголовили своїх жертв і не зробили жодного пострілу, щоб не привертати увагу сил безпеки.
Терористична організація «Боко Харам» діє в північно-східній частині Нігерії з 2009 року. Акти насильства зросли після того, як ISWAP відокремилася від організації в 2016 році й поступово стала найпотужнішим угрупованням джихадистів у регіоні.
За офіційними оцінками, дві групи вбили загалом понад 350 тисяч людей. Мільйони покинули свої домівки через насильство. Більшість людей шукали притулку в інших частинах Нігерії, але, за даними ООН і уряду Нігерії, багато з них попрямували до сусідніх країн.

За словами джерела, яке попросило не називати його імені, це було просто перевищення чисельності збройних сил. Офіс президента повідомив у Twitter, що глава держави наразі перебуває у своїй резиденції з родиною і з ними все гаразд.
Як зазначає ВВС, джерело, близьке до ситуації, поінформувало, що президент Башар аль-Башум і колишні президенти почали переговори, щоб запобігти ескалації конфлікту, але невдовзі їх перервала армія, яка висунула ультиматум президентській охороні, однак та відмовилася звільнити главу держави.
Нігер, котрий не має виходу до моря, здобув незалежність від Франції у 1960-х роках, хоча президент, демократично обраний у 2021 році, не є таємним союзником Франції.
Західноафриканська країна пережила кілька спроб насильницької зміни влади, а також переворотів, які вдалися. Останній з них відбувся в лютому 2010 року, коли було змінено тодішнього президента.

На півночі Нігерії озброєна група викрала християн із церкви.
«Добре озброєні люди увійшли до церкви і забрали всіх, хто там перебував», — повідомив отець Джозеф Хаяб, керівник Християнської асоціації Нігерії, щодо подій під час недільної меси в баптистській церкві Беге в штаті Кадуна.
Двадцяти двом особам удалося втекти, але злочинці тримають у заручниках ще 20 людей, серед яких жінки та діти.
Ісламістські терористичні угруповання та інші злочинні організації регулярно здійснюють викрадення людей. Нерідко вони викрадають студентів. Ісламісти роблять це з метою змусити полонених дівчат і жінок виходити за них заміж, бути смертницями чи працювати на них. Дітей злочинні організації викрадають із метою отримання викупу.
Цього року в штаті Кадуна озброєні групи здійснили напад вже на чотири баптистські церкви. У липні 2021 року з баптистської школи Бетель викрали 120 дітей, більшість учнів утримувалася в полоні місяцями.

В останні роки на північному заході Нігерії почастішали напади озброєних банд на громади, водночас на північному сході населення й надалі тероризують ісламістські сепаратисти. У віддалених селах північно-західної Замфари злочинні угруповання часто викрадають людей з метою отримання викупу та збирають у селян гроші «за захист».
Місцеві жителі повідомили, що цього разу бойовики накинулися на жінок та дітей, які збирали дрова, і потягли до сусіднього лісу. Більшість викрадених дітей – віком від 12 до 17 років.
Як свідчить досвід, часто злочинці місяцями утримують своїх жертв, поки не отримають викуп.

Напад стався в середу в Умогіді, штат Бенуе, де сутички між кочовими скотарями і осілими фермерами в боротьбі за землю є звичним явищем.
Після нападу було знайдено щонайменше сорок шість тіл, але багато людей зникло безвісти, і кількість жертв може зрости, – розповів радник із питань безпеки губернатора штату Бенуе французькому інформаційному агентству AFP.
Оаюл Хемба звинуватив у нападі скотарів, які за останні місяці кілька разів нападали на місцеві громади.
