Катастрофічні лісові пожежі в Австралії значно вплинули на дірку в озоновому шарі Землі, передає AFP.
У звіті, опублікованому в журналі Nature Scientific Reports, простежується зв’язок безпрецедентного диму, випущеного пожежами, з озоновою діркою над Антарктидою.
Пожежі, що охопили 5,8 млн гектарів сходу Австралії наприкінці 2019 та на початку 2020 року, були настільки інтенсивними, що викликали утворення десятків просочених димом хмар. Такі хмари настільки сильні, що можуть впливати на місцеву погоду, викликаючи вогняні торнадо та грози.
Ці хмари викинули в атмосферу більше диму, ніж попередній рекорд, встановлений лісовими пожежами в Північній Америці в 2017 році.
Вчені виявили, що скупчення частинок диму, своєю чергою, призвело до того, що нижня стратосфера нагрілася до рівнів, небачених з часів виверження вулкана Пінатубо у 1991 році.
Через це стратосферне потепління, пожежі збільшили антарктичну озонову дірку, яка з’являється над Антарктидою щовесни і досягла рекордних рівнів у спостереженнях у 2020 році.
Спочатку дірка утворилася через забруднення навколишнього середовища людиною, особливо хлорфторвуглеців, які колись виділялися з багатьох холодильників, але в останні десятиліття глобальна співпраця дала озоновому шару шанс відновитися.
Монреальський протокол, підписаний 1987 року і з того часу ратифікований 195 країнами, різко скоротив кількість хлорфторвуглеців в атмосфері, і, згідно з моделлю Організації Об’єднаних Націй, озоновий шар повинен повністю відновитися до 2060 року.
Тим не менш, дослідники попереджають, що оскільки зміна клімату збільшить частоту та інтенсивність лісових пожеж, подібні події, при яких хмари викидають дим високо в стратосферу, стануть ймовірнішими.
Зміна клімату може абсолютно звести нанівець досягнення Монреальського протоколу.

У понеділок австралійська поліція вилучила найбільшу в історії партію фентанілу, не допустивши, щоб понад п’ять мільйонів доз цього смертельного препарату потрапили на вулиці, поінформувала прикордонна служба країни (ABF).
Згідно з повідомленням, наркотик був схований у ящиках із військовою амуніцією в тритонному промисловому токарному верстаті, який прибув до Мельбурна з Канади наприкінці 2021 року.
Загалом прикордонники вилучили близько 60 кг заборонених наркотиків, зокрема 11,2 кг фентанілу. Знайшли також 30 кг метамфетаміну, вартість якого на чорному ринку сягає 27 мільйонів доларів (1 004 238 540 гривень).
За даними поліції, усього лише 28 мг фентанілу можуть бути смертельними для людського організму. «Раніше ми ніколи не знаходили такої великої партії фентанілу, вилучали лише в кількості менше 30 г», – зазначили правоохоронці.
«Фентаніл токсичний і під час обробки, тому робота з ним може виявитися смертельною. Використання цього препарату поширюється, як епідемія, у багатьох частинах світу, забираючи життя тисяч людей», – заявив регіональний командувач ABF Джеймс Вотсон.
Очільник федеральної поліції Австралії Ентоні Холл пояснив, що злочинні організації змішують цей синтетичний опіоїд з наркотиками для виготовлення небезпечного для життя коктейлю. «Споживачі заборонених речовин ніколи не можуть бути впевнені в тому, що вони приймають. Вилучення таких поставок наркотиків свідчить про смертоносну гру в російську рулетку, в якій Австралія не хоче брати участі», – зазначив начальник поліції.

Як повідомляє Nine News, сайт австралійського телеканалу Channel 9, повітряна куля приземлилася на одній із вулиць в Елвуді, між житловими будинками, і дивом ніхто не постраждав.
Пілот літального апарату 27-річний Нік Броу повідомив телеканалу Channel 9, ніби аварія, ймовірно, сталася через несправність газового клапана, через що повітряна куля втратила багато тепла і її стало важко контролювати.
«Це було дуже страшне видовище, здавалося, що куля летить на пляж, але зрештою це не вийшло», – розповів очевидець, який у момент аварії вигулював собаку.
Управління безпеки дорожнього руху Австралії розпочало розслідування за цим фактом, повітряну кулю вилучено, наразі її перевіряють експерти.

«Поліція розслідує повідомлення про напад акули на плавця на схід від Сіднею. Машини швидкої допомоги прибули на пляж Малабар та виявили у воді людські останки», — йдеться у заяві.
Пляж та прилегла територія закриті для відвідування, а поліція проводить перевірку та розслідування обставин смерті потерпілого.
За даними правоохоронних органів, це перший смертельний напад акули у Сінді з 1963 року. З початку цього року в Австралії було зареєстровано чотири напади акул, три в Новому Південному Уельсі та один у Західній Австралії.

В австралійському штаті Тасманія четверо дітей загинули внаслідок падіння з надувного батуту, який знесло вітром.

Трагедія сталася сьогодні, 16 грудня, під час шкільного свята у місті Девонпорт.
За даними поліції, вітер підняв батут у повітря і діти впали з висоти приблизно 10 м. Загинули два хлопчики та дві дівчинки, які навчалися віком від 10 до 12 років.
Окрім того, травмувалося п’ятеро дітей. Зазначають, що на місці події дітям надали першу медичну допомогу, потім їх доправили гелікоптером до лікарні.
Прем’єр-міністр Австралії Скотт Моррісон назвав цю трагедію немислимою.
„Коли веселе свято маленьких дітей обертається такою жахливою трагедією, це просто розбиває серце”, — сказав він.

За підозрою в причетності до теракту ісламіста, який забрав життя чотирьох людей у Відні майже рік тому, було заарештовано 7 осіб, повідомила в середу речниця генеральної прокуратури Австрії Ніна Буссек.
За її словами, троє людей підозрюються в тому, що допомогли злочинцю отримати зброю, а ще четверо – у заохоченні до нападу.
«Вони можуть бути пов’язані з «Ісламською державою» та терористичними мережами», – зазначила речниця.
Підозрювані, які перебувають у слідчому ізоляторі, можуть бути засуджені до 10 років або довічного ув’язнення, якщо їхню провину доведуть. Буссек також повідомила, що триває розслідування щодо причетності та співучасті в злочині ще 21 особи. За словами речниці, чоловік, який продав зброю нападнику, не перебуває під вартою, оскільки не має судимостей, не був знайомий зі злочинцем до покупки, тому, ймовірно, не знав про його наміри.
Куйтим Фейзулай, австрієць з албанської родини з Півночі Македонії, убив чотирьох і поранив 23 людей у центрі Відня торік 2 листопада. Чоловіка застрелила поліція, він помер на місці події.
Відповідальність за напад узяла на себе терористична організація «Ісламська держава». Зловмисник мав судимість. Він планував поїхати до Сирії, щоб приєднатися до «Ісламської держави». Як заявили на пресконференції слідчий поліції та речниця генпрокуратури, у ході розслідування з’ясувалося, що чоловік скоїв злочин сам.

На вулиці Мельбурна направили 2 тисячі поліцейських, які практично закрили центр міста, перекривши дороги та створивши блок-пости. Незважаючи на це, зібралося близько 700 протестувальників. Учасники мітингу вступили в сутички з поліцейськими, які прибули для розгону натовпу, затримали 235 осіб.
Подібні події відбувалися і в Сіднеї, найбільшому місті Австралії. Там було затримано 32 людини.
В Мельбурні, Сіднеї та столиці Австралії Канберрі протягом кількох тижнів діють суворі карантинні обмеження через поширення штаму Дельта-коронавірусу.
Обмеження діятимуть, поки 70 відсотків населення старше 16 років у штатах Вікторія та Новий Південний Уельс не будуть вакциновані проти коронавірусу. За оцінками експертів, це очікується в кінці жовтня – на початку листопада.
