В результаті загинуло щонайменше 16 людей, без електропостачання залишилися мільйони жителів.
Зазначається, що це природне явище (“Ремаль”) стало першим циклоном у Бенгальській затоці напередодні сезону мусонів, що триває з червня до вересня. Через зміни клімату шторми у цій частині континенту стали більш інтенсивними.
За словами представників метеослужби, пізно ввечері в неділю, розвиваючи швидкість до 135 км/год (84 миль на годину), шторм перетнув район південного порту Бангладеш Монгла та прилеглих островів Сагар в індійській Західній Бенгалії, вийшовши на берег близько 21:00.
Як повідомив Reuters керівник служби боротьби зі стихійними лихами Міджанур Рахман, у Бангладеш загинули щонайменше 10 людей. При цьому двоє загинули, коли прямували до сховищ.
“Люди зазвичай дуже неохоче залишають свою худобу та будинки, щоб вирушити у притулки від циклонів. Вони чекають до останньої хвилини, коли часто буває надто пізно”, – сказав Рахман.
За даними видання, в індійському штаті Західна Бенгалія четверо людей загинули внаслідок ураження електричним струмом. Згідно з інформацією місцевої влади, в результаті кількість жертв у штаті досягла шести.
“Одна людина загинула внаслідок падіння бетону в столиці штату Калькутті, жінка загинула внаслідок обвалення глинобитного будинку на острові Мусуні в дельті Сундарбанса”, – сказано в повідомленні.

В Індії в штаті Хар’яна перекинувся автобус, який перевозив школярів. Шестеро дітей загинули, близько 20 зазнали травм. Про це в четвер, 11 квітня, повідомило видання The Telegraph India.
Повідомляється, що в автобусі, який належить приватній школі, везли 30 дітей. Автобус їхав на великій швидкості, і водій не впорався з керуванням. Автобус врізався в дерево й перекинувся. Почувши крики дітей, деякі перехожі кинулися на допомогу.
Поліція повідомила, що водій міг бути нетверезий, але медичного висновку на момент публікації не було.
Повідомляється також, що районна влада з’ясовує, чому школа працювала у вихідний, пов’язаний зі святкуванням Курбан-байраму.
У лікарні повідомили, що п’ятеро школярів загинули на місці аварії, ще один помер від отриманих травм у лікарні.

Індійцям пояснили, що альтернативою військовій службі могло стати тюремне ув’язнення строком на 10 років.
