A libériai zászló alatt hajózó Chem Pluto nevű olajat és vegyianyagot szállító tankert szombaton érte támadás mintegy 370 kilométerre az indiai partoktól. A legénységnek sikerült eloltania a keletkezett tüzet, áldozatok nem voltak.

A történteket követően az indiai parti őrség Mumbai kikötőjébe kísérte a tankert, amely Szaúd-Arábiából szállított nyersolajat a dél-indiai Mangaluruba – ismertette a védelmi minisztérium Újdelhiben. India még mindig nagyban támaszkodik a közel-keleti olajszállítmányokra dacára annak, hogy az ukrajnai háború óta nagyobb mennyiségben vásárol az energiahordozóból Oroszországtól is.

At least 10 people have died and 11 others were injured after a massive fire broke out at the multi-storey Lemon Green Restaurant in the Hauz Rani area of New Delhi on Wednesday morning.

A zászló nélküli hajón főként kínai és orosz gyártmányú gépkarabélyok, páncéltörők, mesterlövészpuskák és egyéb fegyverek voltak fellelhetők, amelyek feltehetően Jemenbe, a huszi lázadókhoz tartottak – adta hírül az APhírügynökség.
A hírügynökségnek nyilatkozó amerikai védelmi forrás szerint a hadihajó Iránból indult, így az iszlám köztársaság ismételten megpróbálta megszegni az ENSZ által elrendelte fegyverembargót. Teherán tagadta a vádakat, állításuk szerint nem küldtek semmilyen fegyvert Jemenbe.
A USS Monterrey rutinellenőrzése során bukkantak a fegyvereket szállító hajóra, a legénységet pedig ki is hallgatták nem sokkal ezt követően, majd elengedték őket. A szállított fegyvereket a fedélzet alatt, zöld műanyagba csomagolva találták meg.
Az elmúlt idők során nem egy alkalommal kapcsoltak le Jemenbe, elsősorban a huszi lázadóknak küldött fegyverszállítmányt, amely viszont nemzetközi jogot sért. A terrorszervezet ugyanis évek óta, iráni támogatással háborút folytat a központ kormány ellen.
A Jemenben kitört polgárháború jóformán Szaúd-Arábia és Irán proxiháborújává vált és a világ legsúlyosabb humanitárius katasztrófáját idézte elő. A fegyveripar is táplálja a konfliktust, ugyanis hatalmas fegyverszállítmányok szoktak érkezni a konfliktusos országba.
