Egy férfi életét vesztette, amikor egy bálna nekik ütközött Ausztráliában szombaton. Egy másik férfi pedig kórházba került, aki szintén a halászhajón tartózkodott, amikor nekik ment a bálna, majd felborította a hajót.
A rendőrség beszámolója szerint az egyik férfit eszméletlenül húzták ki a Sydney partjainál lévő Botany-öbölből, viszont később meghalt. A másik férfit stabil állapotban szállították kórházba, amiről ugyancsak a rendőrség adott jelentést.
A CNA azt írja, hogy az állami katasztrófavédelmi miniszter szerint egy véletlen baleset történt. Egyelőre nem azonosították a bálnát, hogy az melyik fajhoz is tartozik, de valószínűleg nagyon közel lehetett a hajóhoz, amikor kitört a vízből.
Ausztrália partvidékén 10 nagy és 20 kisebb bálnafaj él. Míg a bálnák által okozott emberi halálesetek a régióban nem gyakoriak, addig Ausztráliában és a szomszédos Új-Zélandon a bálnák tömegesen vetődnek partra.

A nyílt tengerbe dobják az ausztráliai Tasmaniában partra vetődött és elpusztult mintegy kétszáz gömbölyűfejű delfin tetemét, mert oszlásuk a szárazföldön túl sokáig tartana – tájékoztatott az ABC ausztrál hírcsatorna a helyi hatóságokra hivatkozva pénteken.
Ahhoz, hogy megakadályozzák, hogy a tetemeket a hullámok később partra mossák, egészen a kontinentális talapzat széléig kell szállítani őket. Ez a parttól mintegy negyven kilométerre van. Az elpusztult állatokat hajókhoz erősített kötelekkel vontatják el.
Napra pontosan két évvel korábban, 2020. szeptember 21-én 470 hosszúszárnyú gömbölyűfejű delfin vetődött partra szintén a Macquarie-öbölben. Az állatok közül 111-et sikerült megmenteni, a többi elpusztult. Ez volt a legsúlyosabb ilyen eset Ausztráliában.
A hatóságok akkoriban nem szállították el a tetemeket a partról. Azonban a bomlási folyamat a vártnál sokkal tovább tartott, így sokáig elviselhetetlen volt a bűz a környéken – mondta el Brendon Clark helyi illetékes.
Szerdán mintegy 230 gömbölyűfejű delfin feneklett meg a Macquarie-öböl partjainál. Aznap az állatok fele még életben volt, de másnap reggel már csak harminckettőt sikerült megmenteni az esetenként 2,5 tonnás cetek közül.
A megmentett delfinek közül kettő elpusztult, miután nyolc társukkal együtt visszatértek a sekély vízbe. Ez a mentést nehezítő viselkedés tipikusnak mondható a gömbölyűfejű delfineknél, amelyek nagyon szociális lények. Tömeges partra vetődéseknél gyakran előfordul, hogy a túlélők visszaúsznak hátrahagyott társaikért.

Több száz bálna vetődött partra Tasmánia nyugati partvidékén, Strahan város közelében, alig egy nappal azután, hogy a King-szigetről jelentettek tömeges partravetődést – számolt be az Index.
A tasmániai természeti erőforrások és környezetvédelmi minisztérium megerősítette, hogy körülbelül 230 bálna vetődött partra Ocean Beach településnél, néhány állatra pedig a Macquarie kikötőben lévő homokpadon bukkantak.
Az emlősállatok mintegy fele életben van a környezetvédelmi minisztérium szerint. Egy bálnamentő csapatot küldtek ki a partra, hogy a tengeri vadvilág szakértői értékeljék a helyzetet, és megtervezzék a megfelelő válaszlépéseket. A Tasmániai Parkok és Vadvilág Szolgálat és a tasmán rendőrség munkatársai is segítenek.
Sam Gerrity, a Strahanban működő Southwest Expeditions munkatársa elmondta: néhány egyed még a kikötőben életben van, többségük pedig fent az Ocean Beachen van. Elmondása szerint a körülbelül 200 bálna fele él. „Megkezdjük a mentési erőfeszítéseinket – speciális takarókra helyezzük őket, hogy kezelni tudjuk őket. A legnagyobbak több mint két-három tonnásak. A kisebbeket most osztályozzuk” – mondta a szakértő.
Az időjárási körülmények nyugodtak, és néhány bálna morgását és kattogását lehetett hallani.
Több forrás is megerősítette a Guardiannek, hogy az Ocean Beachre és a Macquarie Headsre vezető utakat lezárták. Egy szóvivő elmondta, hogy a tasmán rendőrség jelen van a területen, és segít a biztonság fenntartásában.

Michael Packardot egészben kapta be egy hosszúszárnyú bálna. A hihetetlen történetről saját maga számolt be az 56 esztendős amerikai búvár, aki a massachusetts állembeli Provincetown közelében ereszkedett a vízbe homárokért, amikor „óriási lökést érzett, majd minden elsötétült”.
Először attól tartott, hogy egy cápa harapta meg, ám utána ráébredt, hogy nem voltak fogak, nem érez fájdalmat, valószínűleg egy bálna szájában van. Mivel a búvárfelszerelését továbbra is viselte, tudott lélegezni, ám kétségbeesésében már a halálra készült, feleségére és gyermekeire gondolt. Ám ekkor szerencséjére az állat a felszínre úszott, és kiköpte őt. A halász úgy becsülte, nagyjából 30-40 másodpercet tölthetett a bálna szájában.
Michael Packard történetének szemtanúi is voltak, más halászok mentették ki a vízből és szállították kórházba. Úgy tűnik, csodával határos módon szinte sértetlenül megúszta a kalandot, csak a térde ficamodott ki.
A hosszúszárnyú bálnák akár 15 méteresre is megnőhetnek, súlyuk elérheti a 36 tonnát. A World Wildlife Fund szerint már csak kevés maradt belőlük, populációjuk 60 ezer körül lehet a világon. A CNN által megkérdezett szakértők egyetértettek abban: egészen szokatlan, hogy egy bálna bekapjon egy embert. Úgy vélték, az állat legalább annyira meglepődhetett, mint a búvár: minden bizonnyal baleset történt, étkezés közben véletlenül sodródhatott a férfi a szájába. Arra is emlékeztettek, hogy bár a bálnák szája hatalmas, a torkuk valójában szűk, így az a veszély nem fenyegette a halászt, hogy lenyelik. Azt persze nem vitatták, hogy ettől még óriási veszélyben forgott az élete.

Két barázdásbálna tetemét találták meg a múlt hétvégén a San Diegóban dokkoló HMAS Sydney ausztrál hadihajó mellett, miután leváltak a hajótestről. Minden jel arra utal, hogy a 146 méter hosszú, a vízfelszín alá 7 méterre benyúló hajótestű romboló elgázolta a 20 és 7 méteres bálnákat.
A tengeri emlősök méreteiből arra lehet következtetni, hogy egy anya és borja esett áldozatul az ember építette tengeri monstrumnak.
A közönséges barázdásbálna a világ második legnagyobb testű emlőse a kék bálna után. A bálnavadászok mintegy 3200 egyedre csökkentették az Egyesült Államok nyugati partjainál élő populációt, ezért felkerültek a veszélyeztetett fajok listájára. Manapság azonban nem a vadászat jelenti rájuk a legnagyobb veszélyt, hanem az, hogy elüti őket egy hajó.
Mindazonáltal egyelőre érthetetlen, hogyan gyűrte maga alá a két bálnát a hadihajó, ugyanis a tengeri óriások elkerülik a járműveket, különösen a középfrekvenciájú és a nagy teljesítményű alacsony frekvenciájú szonárral bíró naszádokat. Az ausztrál hadihajót azonban magas frekvenciájú hanglokátorral szerelték fel.

Súlyos sérüléseket szerzett a Temze zsilipjében elakadt bálnaborjú, az állatorvos vizsgálata után az elaltatása mellett döntöttek.
A Temze egyik zsilipjéből kellett kiszabadítani a fiatal csukabálnát, de az állatorvos vizsgálata szerint a csaknem 4 méter hosszú borjú több sérülést is szenvedett a Richmondig vezető útján és azt követően.
A bálna menthetetlennek tűnő állapotba került, így a szakemberek és a mentést végző szervezet az elaltatása mellett döntött – írja az Independent.
A londoni állatkert állatorvos munkatársai nagy dózisú altatószerrel vetnek véget a fiatal csukabálna életének. Julia Cable, a British Divers Marine Life Rescue munkatársa elmondta, hogy a borjúnak nem fog fájdalmat okozni az altatás.
A csukabálnák a legkisebb méretű bálnák közé tartoznak, felnőtt korukra körülbelül 10 méter hosszúságúra nőnek. A Csendes-óceán és az Atlanti-óceán vizeiben lehet velük találkozni a leggyakrabban.
2019-ben három bálnát találtak holtan a Temzében, közöttük egy csukabálnát és egy hosszúszárnyú bálnát.

Viszonylag könnyen feljutott a folyón a még alig 4 méteres fiatal bálna, ám elakadt egy csónakok kihúzásához használt rámpán. A bajbajutott tengeri emlőst a mentőcsapat érkezéséig folyamatosan locsolták.
Az fiatal állat még alig 4 méteres, ezért viszonylag könnyen feljutott a folyón, azonban egy csónakok kihúzásához használt rámpán elakadt. A mentőcsapat érkezéséig folyamatosan locsolták a bajbajutott tengeri emlőst.
Végül csaknem négy óráig tartott, mire kiemelték és biztonságos helyre szállították.
Az állatot egészségügyi vizsgálatnak vetik alá, mielőtt szabadon engedik. A kutatók szerint az állat egy csukabálna, amely felnőtt korában akár 10 méteresre is megnőhet.
