Helyi sajtóértesülések szerint a háttérben a Cruz Azul cementgyár munkásszövetsége két frakciójának a Tula városa melletti üzem ellenőrzéséért folyó rivalizálása áll, amely most véres összetűzéshez vezetett. A hatóságok ugyanakkor csak két csoport összecsapásáról számoltak be az ipari terület egyik bejáratánál.
