A Centcom szerint a Máher al-Akal nevű terroristát az ország északnyugati részén, az Aleppó tartománybeli Dzsindajrisz városa határában ölték meg, egy bizalmasa pedig súlyos sérüléseket szenvedett.
Komoly tervezést igényelt a művelet sikeres végrehajtása. A kezdeti elemzések szerint nem voltak civil áldozatok.
Máher al-Akal az Iszlám Állam öt legfőbb vezetője közé tartozott, aki a terrorszervezet hálózatainak kiépítéséért volt felelős Szíria és a szomszédos Irak területén túl.
