„Halálhírét, amelyet a 83 éves Gülenhez közel álló közösségi oldalakon közöltek, később rokonai, Kemal Gülen és Ebuseleme Gülen is megerősítették” – jelentette a hírügynökség.
A török hatóságok a FETÖ-t és vezetőjét, az Egyesült Államokban öntörvényű száműzetésben élő Fethullah Gülent vádolják a 2016. július 15-i puccs megszervezésével. Ekkor 251 ember meghalt és körülbelül 2200-an megsérültek.
Gülen több mint 60 iszlám könyv szerzője, akit 2008-ban az amerikai Foreign Policy folyóirat és a British Prospect a világ vezető értelmiségijeként ismert el.
