Szükséghelyzetet rendeltek el Izlandon, miután egy erőteljes földrengéssorozat söpört végig az ország délnyugati részén. A Fagradalsfjall vulkán újabb kitörésétől tartanak, már tervezik a közelében lévő város evakuálását.
Az elmúlt hetekben több ezer rengést regisztráltak a közeli Fagradalsfjall vulkán körül − informálta az Izlandi Meteorológiai Szolgálat a BBC-t. A rengések az izlandi Reykjanes-félszigeten koncentrálódtak, amely a 2021-es kitörés előtt 800 évig szunnyadt a vulkáni tevékenység előtt.
Csütörtökön a térségben megnövekedett szeizmikus aktivitás miatt lezárták a közeli Kék lagúna nevezetességet.
Október vége óta több mint 20 ezer rengést regisztráltak Izland délnyugati részén.
A meteorológiai szolgálat információi szerint a magmaalagút megindult a föld alatt, egyenesen a vulkán közelében fekvő Grindavík városa felé, és véleményük szerint nem kizárható, hogy el is éri a települést. Az izlandi polgári védelmi ügynökség emiatt azonnal elrendelte a lakosság evakuálását.
Pénteki nyilatkozatában az ügynökség úgy fogalmazott, az embereknek el kell hagyniuk a várost, de azt is hangsúlyozták, hogy ez nem „vészhelyzeti evakuálás” − felszólították őket, „maradjanak nyugodtak, mert időben észrevették a veszélyes jelenséget”.
Nincs közvetlen veszély, az evakuálás elsősorban megelőzés, a fő cél Grindavík összes lakosának biztonsága − tették hozzá. A várost alig 4 ezren lakják, így gyorsan és hatékonyan tudnak haladni a baj megelőzésével.
