A ház tulajdonosának férje elmondta, hogy éppen a gazdasági épületben volt, és az állatokat etette. Egy pillanatban ropogást hallott a cserepek felől, és füstszagot érzett, majd észrevette, hogy a lángok már a tetőt és a padlástér egy részét is elérték a faépületben. A férfi megpróbálta saját erejéből eloltani a tüzet, de kudarcot vallott.
A bejelentés után a kőrösmezei tűzoltóság egységei érkeztek a helyszínre. 16:04-re sikerült lokalizálniuk a lángokat, amelyek 28 négyzetméteren terjedtek el, és 17:07-re végleg eloltották a tüzet. A lángok elpusztították a tetőszerkezetet és károsították a faépület födémjét.
Jelenleg a hatóságok vizsgálják a tűz okát és az okozott kárt.
