 2015 júliusában, miután az Oroszországi Föderáció elfoglalta az ukrán Krím félszigetet, Jussi Niinisto finn védelmi miniszter azt mondta, hogy az ország az Åland-szigetek esetleges „kis zöld emberkék” általi megszállására készül.
