Ezernél is több tűzoltó harcolt a lángokkal, amelyek több mint hatezer hektárnyi területet emésztettek fel, és továbbra sem sikerült őket megfékezni. Az oltásnál speciális repülőgépeket is bevetettek.
Európa többi részéhez hasonlóan Franciaország is egymást követő hőhullámoktól és súlyos aszálytól szenved. Országszerte erdőtüzek tucatjai pusztítanak, közöttük legalább négy súlyos tűzvész.
A Gironde régióbeli Hostens faluban a lángok közeledtével a rendőrség házról házra járva szólította fel a helyieket a távozásra. Egy nő az élettársával és a fiával menekült, két macskájukkal, tyúkjaikkal és a ház biztosítási papírjaival együtt.
A faluban mindenki felmászott a tetőre, hogy lássa, mi történik. Először csak enyhe füstszagot éreztünk, tíz perc múlva hatalmas füstfelhő borult a falura – mondta.
A vastag füstfelhők miatt rosszak a látási viszonyok, így mindkét irányban leállították a forgalmat a Bordeaux-t a spanyol határ közelében fekvő Bayonne-nal összekötő autópályán – adta hírül az MTI.
Európa többi országában is nagy a baj
Portugáliában megközelítőleg 1200 tűzoltó küzdött a lángokkal nyolc repülő segítségével Covilha hegyvidéki területen, Lisszabontól mintegy 280 kilométernyire északkeletre, ahol vasárnap óta több mint háromezer hektárnyi erdő égett le.
Spanyolországban és Görögországban szintén számos tűz keletkezett az elmúlt három hétben.

Egy dél-franciaországi tűzoltó a felelős a régióban pusztító erdőtüzek sorozatáért, amelyeket adrenalinéhsége csillapítására okozott – közölték a francia hatóságok.
Erdőtüzek pusztítottak Franciaország délnyugati Gironde régiójában, ahol több mint 12 ezer embert evakuáltak. A lángok több mint 2 ezer hektárt elpusztítottak a Bordeaux-tól negyven kilométerre délre fekvő Landiras településnél.
A Herault régió önkéntes tűzoltóját szerdán tartóztatták le. A francia média által „piromániás tűzoltónak” nevezett férfi esete élénk érdeklődést váltott ki Franciaországban, amelyet a múlt heti hőhullám során pusztító erdőtüzek sokkoltak, amelyek miatt több ezer embert kellett evakuálni.
Beismerte a gyújtogatást
Fabrice Belargent montpellier-i ügyész elmondta, hogy a férfi beismerte, hogy május 26-án, július 21-én és legutóbb július 26-27-én éjjel gyújtott tüzet öngyújtóval.
Az indítékáról kijelentette, hogy ezt azért tette, hogy kiprovokálja a tűzoltóság beavatkozását, hogy megmentse őt nyomasztó családi környezetéből, és azért, mert ezek a beavatkozások izgalmat okoztak neki – adrenalinnak nevezte. Azt is mondta, hogy szüksége volt a társadalmi elismerésre – mondta az ügyész.
A férfi, aki a 30-as éveiben jár, főállásban erdészként dolgozik, és a tüzek megelőzése az egyik fő feladata – írja a Guardian.
Bánja tettét, a tűzoltókat családnak tartja
Ügyvédje, Marie Bar elmondta, hogy a férfi a kihallgatás alatt nagyon erős megbánást és mindenekelőtt a szégyenérzetét fejezte ki. Megerősítette, hogy a nyomozási bíró a tárgyalást megelőzően előzetes letartóztatásba helyezte a férfit.
Bocsánatot kért a tűzoltóktól, akikkel együtt dolgozik, mivel a nagy családjának nevezi őket. Ügyvédje szerint a férfi nehezen tudja megmagyarázni, de bizonyos értelemben megkönnyebbült, hogy letartóztatták. Függőségként magyarázza, amit csinált.
Ha elítélik, akár 15 év börtönbüntetés és 150 ezer eurós pénzbüntetés is vár rá.

Egy hét után sikerült megfékezni hétfőre az idei legnagyobb franciaországi erdőtüzet, ám teljesen eloltani még mindig nem tudták, hat út továbbra is lezárva marad – adták hírül a francia hatóságok.
A tűz az ország délkeleti részén, Var megyében múlt hétfőn keletkezett egy autópálya mellett, és szakértők szerint valószínűleg eldobott, de még parázsló cigarettavég okozhatta.
A lángok 700 hektáron pusztítottak, két ember meghalt a tűz miatt, 14 ezret pedig ki kellett lakhelyéről menekíteni.
E hét hétfőn még mindig 400 tűzoltó dolgozott a területen, és vélhetően további egy hétbe telik, míg teljesen sikerül eloltani a tüzet.
