A robbanás délután 3 óra körül történt a Givaudan Sense Colour vállalatnál, amely étel- és italfestékeket gyárt. A vállalat megerősítette a haláleseteket, a CBS Newsnak adott nyilatkozatában kedden késő este.
Legalább 12 alkalmazottat kórházba szállítottak – közölte Louisville polgármestere és a helyi mentőszolgálat kedd este.
A tűzoltók több embert kimentettek és evakuáltak az épületből, köztük olyanokat is, akik életveszélyes sérüléseket szenvedtek.
A louisville-i tűzoltóság átfésülte az épületet, és együttműködik a céggel, hogy kiderüljön, minden alkalmazottat megtaláltak-e már.
Louisville tűzoltóparancsnoka elmondta, hogy a robbanás után azonnal megkezdődött a levegő ellenőrzése, és eddig nem mutattak ki semmilyen vegyi problémát a levegőben az egész régióban.
A tűzoltóparancsnok azt is elmondta, hogy a tűzoltók „még nem tudják pontosan, hogy milyen típusú szivárgások történhetnek vagy lehetnek folyamatban”, de nyugalomra intette a lakosokat. A robbanás okát egyelőre vizsgálják.
