Az Egészségügyi Világszervezet (WHO) megerősítette a H5N2 madárinfluenza első halálos emberi esetét, miután egy 59 éves férfi elhunyt Mexikóban.
A fertőzés forrása ismeretlen. A szervezet figyelmeztet, hogy egyelőre nem lehet bizonyítani az emberi eset és a baromfifertőzés közötti kapcsolatot, és a kockázatot alacsonyra becsülte. A közlemény szerint a férfi láz, légszomj, hasmenés és hányinger után halt meg, korábban nem érintkezett baromfival vagy más állatokkal, és több alapbetegsége is volt.
A H5N2 vírus megbetegedését márciusban jelentették Mexikóban egy Michoacán államban lévő baromfifarmról, és további járványkitörések is voltak Mexikó államban. A mexikói egészségügyi minisztérium közölte, hogy sz 59 éves, krónikus vesebetegségben, 2-es típusú cukorbetegségben és hosszú távú szisztémás artériás magas vérnyomásban szenvedett. „A lakosságot nem fenyegeti fertőzésveszély” – áll a közleményben, hozzátéve, hogy az azonosított kontaktoktól származó összes minta negatív volt.
A madárinfluenza H5N1-es változata már több hete kering az Egyesült Államokban. A hatóságok szerint egyik esetben sem történt emberről emberre történő átvitel.
