Kitört hétfőn Hawaiion a világ egyik legaktívabb vulkánja, a Kilauea. Az amerikai földtani intézet hawaii vulkánmegfigyelő központja szerint a vulkán egy olyan területen tört ki, amely utoljára fél évszázaddal ezelőtt volt aktív.
A lávát kilövő hasadék körülbelül egy kilométer hosszú. A szakértők szerint a kitörés kis volumenű, nem jelent közvetlen veszélyt a lakosokra, a hatóságok azonban óvatosságra intették a közelben élőket, mivel továbbra is fennáll a veszélye annak, hogy a vulkáni gázok és törmelékek lakott területre kerülhetnek.

Sajtóértesülések szerint vélhetően cápatámadás áldozata lett egy 11 éves kislány Honolulu partjainál: a kislányt valószínűleg egy cápa harapta meg, ám a tisztviselők szerint sérülései nem életveszélyesek.
Shayne Enright a Honolulu Emergency Services Department munkatársa megerősítette, hogy szombat délután riasztották egy cápatámadáshoz.

Két hónap szünet után vasárnap ismét kitört Hawaiin a Kilauea vulkán, amelynek az idén ez már a harmadik kitörése.
A Hawaii Vulkánmegfigyelő Intézet közlése szerint a kitörést vasárnap délután észlelték a vulkán csúcsán, de a kiömlő láva biztonságos távolságra volt a lakott területektől és a Hawaii Vulkánok Nemzeti Park építményeitől.
A megfigyelőközpont szerint a kitöréssel felszabaduló gázok miatt vulkáni füst borítja a környéket. Az intézet arra figyelmeztette a közelben élőket, hogy vigyázzanak, nehogy belélegezzék a levegőbe kerülő részecskéket.
A légi közlekedésben vörös kódra változtatták a riasztási szintet.
A Kilauea a Hawaii-szigetcsoport legnagyobb szigetén található, a világ aktív vulkánjai között a legtöbb kitörés fűződik hozzá. Az idén már januárban és júniusban is kitört. 2018-as kitörése több mint 700 házat pusztított el.

A Hawaii-szigetcsoporthoz és szövetségi államhoz tartozó Maui sziget egy részén augusztus 8-án keletkezett bozóttűz, aminek nyomán szinte teljesen leégett a történelmi Lahaina városa, legkevesebb 115 ember halálát okozva.
Hawaii áramszolgáltatója hétfőn reggel megjelent közleményében az áll, hogy „úgy tűnik, az első tüzeket az erős szélben leszakadó villanyvezetékek okozták”, amelyek lángra lobbantották a száraz aljnövényzetet. A cég állítása szerint ugyanakkor a tűzoltóság hibázott, amikor az első bozóttüzet megszűntnek nyilvánította, és elvonult a térségből, miközben egy másik helyen újra felcsaptak a lángot, és azok okozták az Egyesült Államok elmúlt száz évének legsúlyosabb erdőtüzét.
Az elektromos szolgáltató (Hawaiian Electric Company) ellen Maui megye már pert indított, és a cég tömeges kártérítési eljárások elé is néz, amiért a vezetékek leszakadásának veszélyével járó szélviharban nem áramtalanította a hálózatot. A cég szerint az ellene indított perek „tényszerűen és jogilag is felelőtlenek”, állítása szerint a második, pusztítónak bizonyuló tűz keletkezése idején már nem volt feszültség alatt a hálózat.
Szombaton megjelent sajtóértesülések arról szóltak, hogy a tüzet a szigetelés nélküli, elavult villanyvezetékek okozták Mauin. Szakértők arra is felhívták a figyelmet, hogy az áramhálózat mintegy 60 ezer oszlopának többségét az 1960-as évek idején érvényben lévő szabályok szerint állították, miközben a mai előírások szerint az óránkénti 105 mérföldes (mintegy 170 kilométeres) szélsebességet is ki kell bírniuk. Megszólaló illetékesek szerint az érintett oszlopok 60-70 mérföldes szélsebességnek sem voltak képesek ellenállni.
A Lahaina városát, annak mintegy 2200 épületét elpusztító tűznek hivatalosan 115 áldozatát találták meg, de a hétvégén még több száz ember szerepelt az eltűntek listáján, és félő, hogy sokak maradványai soha nem kerülnek elő a tűzvész utáni hamuból. A kutatóegységek három héttel a tűzvész után is próbálnak áldozatokat találni, és a hatóságok az eltűntek DNS-mintái alapján dolgoznak a megtalált maradványok azonosításán.

A Hawaii-szigetekhez tartozó Mauin múlt kedden csaptak fel a lángok, amelyek a száraz bozótban és erős szélben rendkívül gyorsan elérték a lakott területet. A történelmi Lahaina város, az egykori Hawaii Királyság fővárosa, szinte teljesen elpusztult.
A kormányzó korábban elmondta, hogy több mint kétezer épület rongálódott meg vagy égett le, és a tűzvész mintegy 6 milliárd dollár (mintegy 21 ezer milliárd forint) kárt okozott.
A hatóságok szerint a Lahainában pusztító lángokat már mintegy 85 százalékban sikerült megfékezni, míg Maui Upcountry régiójában mintegy 60 százalékban szorították vissza a tüzet.
A tűzoltásban és a mentésben a Hawaii Nemzeti Gárda 258 gárdistáját is bevetették. Az amerikai hadsereg mérnöki testülete a romok eltakarításában és az áramellátás ideiglenes biztosításában nyújt segítséget. Az amerikai parti őrség a tűz okozta környezeti károkat igyekszik enyhíteni a tengeren, illetve a vízi mentésben vesz részt.
Joe Biden amerikai elnök kedden bejelentette, hogy a first ladyvel együtt – amint ez lehetővé válik – Hawaiira látogat, hogy felmérjék a tűz okozta károkat. Ugyanakkor hozzátette: nem szeretné, ha jelenléte megzavarná a helyreállítási erőfeszítéseket.
Biden közölte: biztosította Josh Green kormányfőt, hogy Hawaii „mindent megkap a szövetségi kormánytól, amire szüksége van”.

A BBC információi szerint több száz embert továbbra sem találnak, miközben szintén százak óvóhelyeken várakoznak Maui szigetén.
Nem tudunk mást tenni, mint várni, és segíteni a túlélőknek. Most arra összpontosítunk, hogy egyesítsük a családokat, és minél előbb lakáshoz, egészségügyi ellátáshoz juttassuk őket. A hatalmas tűz a Dora hurrikán széllökései és a száraz időjárási körülmények miatt alakulhatott ki. Az erős szél a tűzoltók munkáját is akadályozza, emellett ellehetetlenítette, hogy a lángokat helikopterek segítségével fékezzék meg. Helyenként óránkénti 100 kilométeres sebességű széllökéseket is mértek.
Pénteken Maui szigetén visszatérhettek a lakosok a tűzben elpusztult történelmi városba, Lahainába. Josh Green kormányzó csütörtökön a helyszínen úgy nyilatkozott, hogy a népszerű településből alig maradt több parázsló romoknál.

Újabb evakuálások vannak folyamatban a Hawaii szigetek egyikén, Mauin, mivel a lángok egyre közelebb kúsznak Kaanapali városához.
Eddig 80 ember halálát erősítették meg az amerikai állam történetének leghalálosabb természeti katasztrófájában. Több százan eltűntek, így a halálos áldozatok száma még emelkedhet Hawaiin – írja a BBC.
Közben újabb kitelepítések kezdődtek Mauin. A parancsot csak néhány órával azután léptették életbe, hogy a közeli Lahaina lakói rövid időre visszatérhettek, hogy számba vegyék a tűzvész sújtotta történelmi város kárait.
Hawaii főügyésze bejelentette, hogy „átfogó vizsgálatot” indítanak arról, hogyan reagáltak a hatóságok az erdőtüzekre, miközben egyre több a kérdőjel, hogy a hatóságok elég gyorsan figyelmeztették-e a lakosokat.
Az állami hatóságok pénteken nyitották meg újra Lahainát a lakhelyüket igazoló személyek előtt, először azóta, hogy a hét elején a lángok gyorsan végigsöpörtek a tengerparti város nagy részét elpusztítva, amely gazdag történelemmel rendelkezik és évente mintegy kétmillió turistát vonz.
De néhány órával később az utat újra lezárták. Még órákkal később is kilométeres sor állt az úton. A lahainai lakosok azt mondták, otthonaikat kifosztották, de a rendőrség nem erősítette meg a fosztogatásról terjengő híreket.
Korábban Josh Green helyi kormányzó arra figyelmeztetett, hogy a lakosokat „olyan pusztítás képe fogadja majd, amilyet soha életükben nem láttak még”.
Nyugat-Maui, ahol Lahaina és Kaanapali található, továbbra is áram és vezetékes víz nélkül van. A mentőcsapatok még mindig a térségben vannak, hogy az erdőtűz áldozatait felkutassák.
A vízben is zajlik a keresés. A parti őrség közölte, hogy eddig 17 embert húztak ki élve a tengerből a város kikötője közelében. A jelentések szerint mindegyikük állapota stabil.
A hatóságok arra figyelmeztettek, hogy évekbe telik majd, mire a Maui szigetén pusztító erdőtüzek által okozott károkat helyreállítják. Csak Lahainában több mint 1000 épület semmisült meg.
Folyamatosan érkeznek az adományok
A szigeten sok gazdag ember él, köztük az Amazon alapítója, Jeff Bezos. Ő és élettársa, Lauren Sanchez 100 millió dollárt ajánlottak fel a tűz áldozatainak megsegítésére.
A Hawaii Maui szigetén és a Big Islanden kedd este kezdődtek az erdőtüzek. Az okot még nem tudni, de mikor fellobbantak, a hurrikánszerű szél és a száraz időjárás segítette a lángok gyors terjedését.

Az amerikai elnök ígéretet tett arra, hogy minden lehetséges segítséget megad a katasztrófa sújtotta területen élőknek, a haditengerészetet és a hadsereget is az államban élők megsegítésére küldi, és feloldotta a szövetségi segélyalapok zárolását.
„A lehető leggyorsabban dolgozunk a tüzek eloltásán, a lakosok és turisták evakuálásán. Addig is imádkozunk Hawaii lakosságáért, de nem csak imáink, hanem minden eszközünk is rendelkezésükre áll. Láttuk, ahogy otthonaik és üzleteik elpusztultak, néhányan elvesztették szeretteiket, és ennek még nincs vége” – fogalmazott Joe Biden.
A tűzben több száz ház leégett, köztük a Lahaina történelmi belvárosában található régi épületek többsége. A példátlan erdőtűz oltását a Dora hurrikán 100 kilométeres széllökései is nehezítik.
A helyi repterek tele vannak turistákkal és helyiekkel, akik szeretnének elmenekülni a szigetekről, az időjárás miatt azonban sok járat nem tud felszállni.

Az amerikai parti őrség 12 embert mentett ki a tengerből Lahaina közelében – közölte a szervezet az X (korábban: Twitter – a szerk.) közösségi platformon.
Lahaina turisták által látogatott városrészében több épületben is károkat okozott a tűz – közölte Mahina Martin, Maui megye szóvivője szerdán telefonon. Hozzátette: a hatékony evakuálás érdekében a biztonságos helyen tartózkodókat arra kérik, hogy ne induljanak útnak.
A hatóságok mikroblog-bejegyzésben és a Lahainába vezető utakon figyelmeztető táblákkal szólították fel a látogatókat, hogy „ne lépjenek be a város területére”.
A tüzek oltását az olykor óránként 90-120 kilométeres széllökések és az extrém szárazság is nehezíti. Az amerikai Országos Időjárási Szolgálat (NSW) közlése alapján az oltást a Dora hurrikán is akadályozza, amely mintegy 800 kilométer távolságban pusztít a Hawaii-szigetek déli területein.
Halálos áldozatokról nem érkezett jelentés.
A keletkezett anyagi kár mértéke egyelőre ismeretlen.
Hawaii-szigeten vörös szintű riasztás van érvényben. Sylvia Luke kormányzó szerdán szükségállapotot hirdetett, és elrendelte a nemzeti gárda bevetését.
Maui-szigeten kedd éjszaka mintegy 14 és fél ezren maradtak áram nélkül, számos házat megrongált az orkánerejű szél, a tűzoltó helikopterek használatát átmenetileg fel kellett függeszteni. A tűzoltók egész éjjel dolgoztak a kidőlt fák és villanyoszlopok eltávolításán az utakról. Hasonló káreseményekről érkezett bejelentés Oahu szigetéről is, ahol a főváros, Honolulu található.
