A hegyi vezető, akinek nevét nem hozták nyilvánosságra, vasárnap tartott lefelé a csúcsról, és 7906 méteres magasságban halt meg.
A hegyi betegség szövődményeire gyanakszunk. El fogunk indulni a holttest keresésére – mondta az AFP-nek Mingma Gelu Serpa, a Seven Summits Club munkatársa.
Egy másik hegyi vezető, Pemba Taszi Serpa kedden halt meg, a második alaptáborból az első felé tartva zuhant szakadékba.
Az idei mászószezonban már egy svájci és egy amerikai hegymászó is meghalt a 8848 méter magas Everesten. Mindketten a déli, nepáli oldalon, a csúcs közelében veszítették el az életüket.
Nepál idén rekordszámú, 408 külföldinek adott mászóengedélyt. A hatóságok szerint már több mint 350 hegymászó érte el a világ legmagasabb csúcsát a szezonban.
Kína azonban lefújta az Everestre induló expedíciókat, mivel a hatóságok attól tartanak, hogy a hegymászók behurcolhatják magukkal a nepáli oldalról a koronavírus-fertőzést.
