Az Egyesült Államokban több, halálos kimenetelű melioidosis-os esetet regisztráltak, melyet az Indiából származó légfrissítő spray okozott, jelentette be a CNN.
Az Egyesült Államok Betegségellenőrzési és megelőzési Központja óva int a melioidosis betegséget kiváltó spray használatától. A Központnál elmondták, az orvosoknak tisztában kell lenniük ennek a fertőző betegségnek a tüneteivel, amelyet nehéz diagnosztizálni. Az intézmény októberben közölte, Georgia államban tanulmányozta a halálos fertőzés esetét. A fertőzés terjedését a népszerű Walmart áruházláncban vásárolt légfrissítő spray okozta. További három esetet Kansasban, Minnesotában és Texasban regisztráltak, a kansasi beteg meghalt.
A fertőzés kezdetben megzavarta az orvosokat, mivel a melioidosis egy trópusi betegség, miközben a fertőzöttek közül senki sem hagyta el az Egyesült Államok területét. A vizsgálat során kiderült, hogy a Better Homes indiai gyártmányú, levendula és kamilla illóolajjal készült, „drágakőn érlelt” légfrissítő spray-nek köze van a fertőzéshez.
„Öt másik, ugyanolyan márkájú „drágakőn érlelt” légfrissítőt tesztelünk” – közölte a Betegségellenőrzési és Megelőzési Központ, egyben hozzátette: a sprayt 2021 február–októbere között országszerte árulták a Walmart üzletekben.
Az Egyesült Államok Betegségellenőrzési és Megelőzési Központja közleményt adott ki a betegség tüneteinek leírásával az egészségügyi dolgozók számára: „láz, fejfájás, gennyes duzzanatok a májban, tüdőben, lépben és prosztatában. A betegeket meg kell kérdezni, használtak-e légfrissítőt, beleértve, hogy a szobában tartózkodott-e a termék permetezése közben, és belélegezte-e, érintkezett-e olyan termékekkel, amelyeket érintett a permet.”
Az embereknek azt tanácsolják, hagyják abba a spray használatát. De ne dobják ki, hanem gondosan csomagolják be és vigyék vissza a boltba.
