Válságos állapotban van az a tüntető, aki felgyújtotta magát az izraeli konzulátusnál az egyesült államokbeli Georgia államban. A rendőrség szélsőséges politikai tiltakozásnak nevezte az incidenst.
Az amerikai hatóságok szerint a tüntető benzint locsolt magára, mielőtt felgyújtotta magát. Hozzátették, az illetőnél egy palesztin zászló is volt.
A BBC hangsúlyozza, a szóban forgó személy neme és kora egyelőre nem ismert. Mint írták, a történtek miatt az ott tartózkodó biztonsági őr égési sérüléseket szenvedett, miután megpróbálta megakadályozni az elkövető tettét. A tüntetőt és az őrt is kórházba szállították.

Izrael délkelet-amerikai főkonzulja, Anat Sultan-Dadon az eset után úgy nyilatkozott, hogy „szomorú az irodaház bejáratánál történt önfelgyújtás miatt”.
„Tragikus látni, hogy az Izrael iránti gyűlölet és uszítás ilyen szörnyű módon fejeződik ki”– mondta.
Helyi idő szerint péntek reggel 7 órakor lejárt az Izrael és a Hamász között hét napja tartó tűzszünet. Az izraeli hadsereg (IDF) bejelentette, hogy folytatja a harcot a Hamász ellen.
Amerikai tisztviselők figyelmeztettek, hogy a harcokkal párhuzamosan kiújulhatnak az antiszemita és az iszlamofób megnyilvánulások is.
