Az Irán támogatását élvező húszik már több alkalommal vették célba drónokkal és rakétákkal Izrael déli részét, illetve a Vörös-tengeren közlekedő hajókat, hogy – saját megfogalmazásuk szerint – ezzel támogassák a palesztinok ügyét. Amerikai hadihajók többször segédkeztek ezeknek a rakéta- és dróntámadásoknak a semlegesítésében.
