 A 41 éves férfi, aki a gyanú szerint egy választási kampánybeszéd közben közelről, házilag készített fegyverrel hátulról lőtte le Abét, azt mondta, hogy több fegyvert is készített – jelentette a Kyodo japán hírügynökség.
 A rendőrség átkutatta a nyugati Nara városában lévő otthonát, és lefoglalt olyan fegyvereket, amelyek hasonlóak voltak ahhoz, amelyet a helyszínen találtak.
 Az említett források közölték, hogy a vádlott letartóztatása után azt mondta, hogy az Abét támogató vallási csoport iránti gyűlöletből cselekedett. Kijelentette, hogy anyja nagy összegeket adományozott a vallási szervezetnek, amely tönkretette őt.
 Sem a rendőrség, sem a japán állami média nem nevezte még meg a csoportot. A Gendai Business című internetes magazin azonban most azt állítja, meg nem nevezett forrásokból értesült arról, hogy a néhai dél-koreai vallási és üzleti vezető, Szun Mjung Mun vitatott Egyesítő Egyházáról van szó.
 A Mun szektaként is ismert Egyesítő Egyházának számos országban, köztük Japánban is vannak tagjai.
 Az intézményt heves bírálatok érték a világuralomra való törekvés és a tömeges esküvők szisztematikus megszervezése miatt.
 A magát messiásnak kikiáltó Szun Mjung Mun 2012 szeptember elején halt meg 92 évesen. Egyházát 1954-ben alapította, amely mára egyes becslések szerint világszerte hárommillió követőt számlál és 194 országban van jelen.
 A sokak által szektaként nyilvántartott intézmény nem csak a tömeges esküvők miatt szerepelt sokat a hírekben, de azért is, mert multimilliárdos vallási és üzleti birodalmat működtet.
