Több mint 300 embert vezényeltek szombaton Afrika legmagasabb hegyére, a Tanzánia északkeleti részén lévő Kilimandzsáróra egy tűz oltására – közölte a regionális rendőrfőnök.
A tűz péntek este ütött ki, eredete egyelőre nem ismert. A Karanga tábor közelében, mintegy négyezer méter magasságban pusztít. A táborban hegymászók számára épült menedékház áll.
„Egyelőre nem tudjuk megmondani, mekkora a tűz, mert a lángok lokalizálására összpontosítunk. Azt sem tudjuk, milyen hatással van a lakosságra, csak azt, hogy a növényzet, a bozót ég” – nyilatkozta Yahaya Mdogoa regionális rendőrfőnök a TBC közszolgálati televízióban.
Nurdin Babu, a Kilimandzsáró regionális közigazgatási vezetője azt mondta, hogy a tűz egyelőre nem zavarja a hegyi turizmust. A Nemzeti Parkok Hivatala (Tanapa) közleményben erősítette meg, hogy tűz keletkezett Karanga térségében, és a helyszínen még mindig zajlanak az oltási munkálatok.
Két évvel ezelőtt, 2020 októberében egy erdőtűz 95 négyzetkilométernyi területet pusztított el a lankákon, halálos áldozat akkor nem volt.

A tanzániai hatóságok szerint péntekre sikerült megfékezni az Afrika legmagasabb hegyén, a Kilimandzsárón tomboló erdőtüzet, amely a hegyet is magába foglaló nemzeti park területének öt százalékát perzselte fel.
„A tűzvész kezdete óta végzett megfeszített munka eredményeként ellenőrzés alatt tartjuk a tüzet, amely 95,5 négyzetkilométeren pusztította el a növényzetet” – közölte pénteken délután a Tanzániai Nemzeti Parkok Igazgatósága (TANAPA).
A tűz a hegyet megmászó turisták 3000 méteres magasságban fekvő, Whona nevű pihenőhelyén keletkezett vasárnap este, egyelőre ismeretlen okból. A lángok a növényzeten kívül felemésztettek 12 kunyhót, két nyilvános illemhelyet és egy napenergia-berendezést, amit a hegymászók használnak.
A nagy magasság és a domborzati viszonyok miatt a bozóttűz nagy kihívások elé állította a körülbelül ötszáz tűzoltót és önkéntest. Egy helikoptert is bevetettek a lángok ellen.
Az idegenforgalmában ugyanakkor nem okozott fennakadást a tűz. Az 5895 méter magas Kilimandzsáró a világ legmagasabb, önmagában álló hegye és Tanzánia szimbóluma, évente 50 ezer turista mássza meg.
