A férfi három héttel ezelőtt érte el motorjával a török–iráni határt. Nem először járt az országban, de lehet, hogy utoljára – írta meg az Index.
 Az utazás eleinte zavartalanul zajlott. Az első két éjszakát nyugodtan töltötte, majd letért a tervezett útvonalról, és egy kanyargós hegyi úton egy ismeretlen faluba érkezett. Itt helyi rendőrök igazoltatták. Később derült ki, hogy a településen egy nukleáris kutatóreaktor működik. Gátinál eközben volt egy kamera, egy drón és egy műholdas jeladó is, ami miatt a hatóságok gyanúsnak ítélték.
  
 
 Azt feltételezték, hogy kémkedik, ezért őrizetbe vették.
 A lap szerint Gáti Csabát négy napig tartották fogva. Éjszakánként egy hotelszobában helyezték el, amelyet rendszeresen átkutattak, nappal pedig kihallgatásokon kellett megjelennie. Közben sikerült egy segélykérő üzenetet küldenie a feleségének, aki azonnal értesítette az Iráni Magyar Nagykövetséget. Ezzel kezdetét vette a diplomáciai mentőakció.
 A magyar férfit végül szabadon engedték, de hajóval kellett elhagynia az országot, és tíz évre kitiltották Irán területéről. Bár épségben hazaért, az eset mély nyomot hagyott benne. Egy ártatlan nyaralásból kis híján nemzetközi incidens lett. Gáti az RTL Híradónak nyilatkozott az esetről.

 Tűzoltók és hegyi mentők siettek a segítségére.
  
 
 Egy speciális hordágyat eresztettek le neki, hogy megóvják a gerincét a zuhanás miatti esetleges további sérülésektől, majd kivizsgálás céljából kórházba szállították.
