Meghaladta a 12 800 embert a kitelepítettek száma a Fülöp-szigeteki Mayon vulkán lábánál található falvakból a tűzhányó kitörése miatt – közölte vasárnap a szigetország katasztrófavédelmi hatósága.
Időközben a manilai egészségügyi minisztérium is figyelmeztetést adott ki, amelyben felhívta figyelmet a vulkanikus hamu és mérgező gázok belélegzésének veszélyeire.
Az ország központi részén, Albay tartományban található tűzhányó a helyi vulkanológiai és szeizmológiai intézet szerint jelenleg két kilométeres körzetben szór vulkanikus törmeléket, illetve lávafolyamokat is megfigyeltek. A térségében a mérgező kéndioxid koncentrációja a háromszorosára növekedett.
A szakemberek szerint az utóbbi 24 órában legalább egy földrengést jegyeztek fel a vulkanikus tevékenység következtében.
A Mayon mintegy 330 kilométerre található a Fülöp-szigeteki fővárostól, Manilától. Az ország 24 aktív vulkánja közül a legkiszámíthatatlanabbnak számít a 2462 méter magas Mayon, amely az utóbbi 400 évben mintegy ötven alkalommal tört ki. A legutóbb 2018-ban történt kitörés során tízezreknek kellett elmenekülniük a tűzhányó környékéről.

A Fülöp-szigeteki hatóságok pénteken több mint tízezer ember evakuálását kezdték meg az ország keleti részén fekvő, Albay tartományban található Mayon vulkán környékéről kitörésveszély miatt – közölte a Fülöp-szigetek vulkanológiai és szeizmológiai intézete (Phivolcs) pénteken.
Az intézet jelentése szerint a tökéletes kúp alakjáról ismert vulkán a csúcson lévő lávakupolák összeomlásának következtében piroklaszt sűrűségárt idézett elő, amely forró hamu, por és törmelék hömpölygő keveréke.
„Tegnap éjjel megfigyelhető volt egy, a Mayon vulkán csúcsán újonnan képződött folyékony halmazállapotú láva okozta fényjelenség, valamint a hegyoldalról legördülő izzó sziklaomlás” – olvasható az intézet pénteki közleményében. A Phivolcs tájékoztatójában foglaltak szerint a Mayon a vulkánkitörési index alapján hármas riasztási fokozaton áll, ami azt jelenti, hogy a tűzhányó heteken, de akár napokon belül is kitörhet.
„Amennyire csak lehetséges, szeretném fenntartani azt, hogy a tartományban eddig egyetlen halálos áldozat sincs, remélem sikerül a lakosságot biztonságos helyre evakuálni” – mondta Albay kormányzója, Edcel Greco Lagman az esetleges kitöréssel kapcsolatos rendkívüli ülésen csütörtökön.
A főváros, Manila közelében található Taal vulkán is aktivitás jeleit mutatta a múlt héten, amikor háromezer méter magasra emelkedő gőzoszlopokat lövellt ki fő kráteréből. Emiatt vulkáni szmog alakult ki a térségben, és a hatóságok a lakosokat maszk viselésére szólították fel.
