Franciaország déli részén, La Ciotat városában december 11-én este drámai baleset történt, ahol egy 38 éves nő autójával áttörte a Paul-Éluard önkormányzati uszoda üvegfalát, majd a jármű a fedett medencébe zuhant.
A kocsiban a nő 5 éves kislánya is benne volt, akit a helyszínen tartózkodó úszómesterek azonnal kimentettek. A város közleménye szerint a nő a parkolóban manőverezett, amikor a Jaguar XF típusú autóval egyenesen az gfüvegfalnak hajtott, majd a 25 méteres medencébe zuhant.
A La Ciotat önkormányzata a Facebookon számolt be a részletekről: „Két úszómester és egy személy gyors beavatkozásának köszönhetően az utasokat sikerült kiszabadítani a járműből, és nem történt halálos áldozat. A tűzoltók, valamint az állami és önkormányzati rendőrség azonnal intézkedett a helyszín biztosítása érdekében.”
A helyi lap, a La Provence arról számolt be, hogy a városháza szerint a tűzoltóság és a mentőszolgálat feltételezése alapján a sofőr „összetéveszthette a fék- és a gázpedált”, amikor este 9 óra körül bekövetkezett az eset – jelenti a People.
A Bouches-du-Rhône megyei tűzoltóság (SDIS) közölte: „Az úszómesterek azonnal a vízbe ugrottak, hogy kimentsék az anyát és a lányát.” A nő és gyermeke látszólag sértetlenül kerültek ki a járműből, de sokkos állapotban voltak, ezért kórházba szállították őket.
A baleset utáni fotókon jól látszik, hogy az autó a medence alján feküdt, nyitott hátsó ajtókkal, miközben az egyik légzsák is kinyílt. Egy másik felvételen az üvegpanelek törése látható, ahol a jármű behatolt az épületbe. A város vezetése bejelentette, hogy az uszoda a jármű kiemeléséig és a károk helyreállításáig néhány hétig zárva marad.

A helyi sajtó szerint a villa tulajdonosai hibáztak, mikor engedély nélkül építtettek medencét egy ismert problémákkal rendelkező helyre.
Gondatlanság miatt kell bíróság elé állni annak a 60 év körüli házaspárnak, akik az izraeli Karmi Yosefben helyszínt biztosítottak egy céges rendezvény számára, a medence alatt azonban víznyelő nyílt meg, ami a halálba rántotta az egyik fürdőző vendéget.
Az incidensről készült mobiltelefonos felvételeken látható, ahogyan fürdőruhás emberek állnak egy csaknem üres medencében és környékén, és döbbenten nézik, ahogyan egy nagy lyuk elnyeli a vizet, magával húzva a felfújható tárgyakat.
Az összejövetelen körülbelül 50 ember vett részt, de a medence aljának megnyílásakor csak hatan tartózkodtak a vízben, ennek köszönhetően nem történt még nagyobb tragédia. A víz még egy embert magával rántott, neki azonban sikerült kimásznia, és csak könnyebb sérüléseket szenvedett.
A BBC értesülései szerint a 32 éves áldozat a cég egyik alkalmazottja, Klil Kimhi volt, a mentőcsapatoknak pedig négy órájába telt, mire elérték őt a 13 méteres mélységben.
A helyi sajtó arról számolt be, hogy a balesetet az okozhatta, hogy a háztulajdonos engedély nélkül építtette meg a medencét a helyszínen, amelynek ismert infrastrukturális problémái voltak.
