A közlemény szerint augusztus 9-én a lembergi járási Povitno faluban négy ember szenvedett mérgezést eddig ismeretlen anyagoktól egy kétszintes lakóház pincéjében. „Sajnos mérgezés következtében meghaltak. Az elhunytak között van egy 1956-ban született nő, valamint 1952-ben, 1978-ban és 1971-ben született férfiak” – áll a Rendkívüli Helyzetek Állami Szolgálatának jelentésében.
A helyszínre érkező mentők megállapították, hogy a burgonyaraktárként használt ház pincéjébe bement emberek valószínűleg mérgező gázok belélegzése miatt vesztették el az eszméletüket.
Mint a mentők kifejtették, ilyen magas gázkoncentráció valószínűleg az alagsorban lévő burgonya rothadási folyamata miatt keletkezhetett. A szerves anyagok, például a burgonya bomlása során különféle kémiai reakciók mennek végbe, amelyek veszélyes gázokat bocsáthatnak ki. „A halál végső okát a nyomozás állapítja meg” – összegezte a Rendkívüli Helyzetek Állami Szolgálata.

Legkevesebb 16 ember – közülük három gyermek – életét vesztette és ketten megsérültek egy dél-afrikai településen, Johannesburg térségében, miután egy fémpalackból illegálisan kibányászott arany feldolgozásához használt, mérgező nitrátgáz szivárgott ki – közölte a gautengi tartományi kormány vezetője, Panyaza Lesufi szerda éjjel.
A helyi rendőrség beszámolója szerint 13 felnőtt mellett egy tizenöt, egy hat- és egy egyéves gyerek is életét vesztette. A két sérültet további kezelésekre kórházba szállították.
A mentőszolgálat szóvivője, William Ntladi elmondása szerint a balesetet egy fémházban tárolt gázpalackból szivárgó nitrát okozta, amelyet arra szoktak használni, hogy a kibányászott ércből elkülönítsék a tiszta fémet.
A Johannesburg környékén található, aranyban gazdag területeken törvényellenesen próbálkozó bányászok gyakorta ereszkednek alá lezárt és használaton kívüli bányákba, hogy felszínre hozzák a hátramaradt készleteket.
A bányászatért felelős dél-afrikai minisztérium korábbi bejelentése szerint a közelmúltban 31 illegális bányász életét vesztette gázrobbanás következtében egy használaton kívüli bányában az ország középső részén található Welkom városában is.

A tudósok felfigyeltek az Európa felé tartó kén-dioxidra, a mérgező gáz Ukrajna felett van.
„Jelenleg ezek a légtömegek már elérték Ukrajna területét. A tudósok elmondása szerint azonban pánikra nincs ok! A kén-dioxid-koncentráció növekedését nem a légkör felszíni rétegében, hanem jelentős, 10–15 km-es magasságban figyelték meg. A levegőt, amelyet belélegzünk, nem befolyásolja jelentősen” – olvasható a jelentésben.
A meteorológusok elmagyarázták, hogy ha esik is az eső, nem okoz jelentős kárt. Ezenkívül a kén-dioxidot tartalmazó légtömegek hamarosan elhagyják Ukrajna területét.
