Az izraeli biztonsági erők Szidónban, Libanoni déli, tengerparti városában megölték Mohamed Sahínt, a Hamász iszlamista terrorszervezet libanoni katonai vezetőjét – jelentette az izraeli hadsereg (IDF) közösen a Sin Bet belbiztonsági szolgálattal hétfőn.
Izraelben a Hamász libanoni hadműveleti vezetőjeként, valamint iráni összekötőjeként határozták meg Sahín státuszát, akivel egy, az autójára mért dróncsapással végeztek a libanoni hadsereg egy ellenőrző pontja és a város sportstadionja közelében. A támadásról készült felvételeken látható, amint a gépkocsi lángba borul.
Az IDF szerint Sahin az utóbbi időben iráni irányítással és finanszírozással az Izrael elleni terrorizmust próbálta előmozdítani, és a terrorszervezet egyik legtöbb információt birtokló vezetője volt.
Sahin a Hamász libanoni parancsnokaként nemcsak Dél-Libanonban tervezett Izrael elleni támadásokat, hanem külföldön is szervezett zsidók elleni terrorakciókat.
Izrael hétfőn bejelentette, hogy az IDF a kitűzött időpontnak megfelelően kedden kivonul Libanonból – de több stratégiai ponton ott marad, egyeztetve és egyetértésben az Egyesült Államokkal.
Vasárnap az al-Ahbar című libanoni hírportál arról számolt be, hogy a határ menti helyszínek al-Labuna, al-Hamama, Dzsabal Balata, Vadi Hunin és Marqaba falvak mellett lesznek, valamint a Dzsal al-Dir területen Itrun térségében.
Izrael a Libanonnal kötött tavaly novemberi tűzszünetben azt vállalta, hogy hatvan napon belül kivonul Dél-Libanonból, majd ezt a határidőt három héttel, február 18-ig meghosszabbították.
