Az amerikai hadsereg támogatásával a kolumbiai biztonsági erők feltartóztattak a Karib-tengeren egy kábítószercsempészésre használt motorcsónakot, fedélzetén 3,4 tonna kokainnal – közölte a kolumbiai haditengerészet vasárnap.
A lefoglalt drog értékét több mint 120 millió dollárra (40 milliárd forint) becsülik.
A tájékoztatás szerint a kolumbiai légierő és haditengerészet az amerikai hadsereg közreműködésével tudta a gyanús motorcsónakot észlelni, amelyet a parti őrség gyorsreagálású erőinek egy vízihajszát követően a Kolumbiához tartozó San Andrés és Providencia szigetcsoporttól 220 kilométerre sikerült megállítaniuk.
A motorcsónak Kolumbiából indult Közép-Amerikába, legénységét – három nicaraguai és két Costa Rica-i állampolgárt – őrizetbe vették.
Kolumbia a világ egyik legnagyobb kokatermesztő országa. Közel 169 ezer hektáron termesztenek kokacserjét, amelynek szárított leveleit a perui és bolíviai indiánok évszázadok óta rágják élénkítőszerként. A levélből kivonható kokain azonban erős és illegális kábítószer. A legnagyobb mennyiséget ebből a drogból az Egyesült Államokba csempészik.
