Két orosz tankhajó – a Volgoneft-212 és a Volgoneft-239 – súlyos balesetet szenvedett a Fekete-tengeren, a Kercsi-szoros közelében. Erről az oroszországi rendkívüli helyzetekminisztériuma, valamint az Astra és a Baza orosz médiaforrások számoltak be.
A rendkívüli helyzetek minisztériuma adatai szerint az incidenseket a nehéz időjárási viszonyok okozták. Mindkét tartályhajón 27 fős személyzet tartózkodott. Mentőhelikopterrel kimentették a tengerészeket.
A Volgoneft-212 tartályhajó kritikus károkat szenvedett – a nagy hullámok miatt a hajó félbetört. Ennek eredményeként a tartályhajó által szállított fűtőolaj elkezdett a tengerbe szivárogni, és maga a hajó a legénységgel együtt süllyedni kezdett. Később kiderült, hogy a másik tartályhajó esetében is meg van a veszélye a süllyedésnek.
A Fekete-tenger ökológiai szennyezettségének mértékét jelenleg még nem mérték fel. Hivatalos orosz források nem kommentálják a katasztrófa mértékét és annak lehetséges következményeit.
