Több mint 115 ezren sztrájkoltak pénteken a brit királyi postánál – írta meg a Reuters. A megélhetési költségek és a rezsiszámlák összegeinek növekedése miatt a munkások magasabb fizetést követelnek, ráadásul a hírek szerint az infláció az év végéig elérheti a 13 százalékot. A Communication Workers Union szerint a postások sztrájkja a legnagyobb munkabeszüntetés az idei nyári hullám során.
Keményen fogunk harcolni a jól megérdemelt béremelését – mondta a szakszervezet főtitkára, Dave Ward a Sky Newsnak.
A postahivatal 5,5 százalékos fizetésemelést ajánlott fel a szakszervezet tagjainak, amely évek óta a legnagyobb mértékű emelés lenne. A szakszervezet szerint ez nem igaz, 2 százalékot ajánlottak, amelyet további feltételekkel 1,5 százalékkal toldanának meg.
Az évszázados hagyományokkal rendelkező brit posta elnézést kért a lakosságtól a levelek és csomagok fennakadásáért, és elmondták: hiába dolgoztak ki készenléti tervet, teljesen nem tudták pótolni a frontvonalban dolgozókat a sztrájk idejére.
A postások augusztus 31-ére, valamint szeptember 8-ára és 9-ére is sztrájkot hirdettek.
A postahivatal vezérigazgatója, Simon Thompson elmondta: változtatniuk kell, mert a posta már több csomagot kézbesít, mint levelet, és a csomagküldő cégek között nagy a verseny. Thompson azt is elmondta: szeretnének többet fizetni az alkalmazottaiknak.
