Az amerikai Szövetségi Nyomozóiroda (FBI), a Titkosszolgálattal és a Kiberhadviselési Parancsnoksággal együttműködve valószínűleg sikeresen leállította a REvil nevű orosz kollektívát. A bűnszervezet korábban az Apple-t és a világ legnagyobb húsfeldolgozóját is megtámadta.
A The Verge híre szerint a sikeres ellentámadás első jele az volt, hogy a REvil Tor weboldala hétfő óta nem volt elérhető. A Tor egy olyan rendszer, amelyet bűnözők is előszeretettel használnak; egyszerre fedi el azt, hogy mit böngészünk az interneten, ahogyan azt is, hogy egy weboldal pontosan kihez tartozik, milyen szerverről fut. Már ekkor elindult a találgatás, hogy vajon meghackelték-e a bűnszervezetet, amit megerősíteni látszott, hogy az egyik vezető, illetve annak tartott személy, egy fórumban arra utalt, hogy egy szerverüket kompromittálták.
A REvil volt felelős a júliusi, történelmi zsarolóvírus-támadásért.
Akkor két, önmagában is ijesztő megközelítést alkalmaztak egyszerre: a zsarolóvírusukat úgynevezett ellátási lánc támadással kombinálták. Vagyis nem volt szükségük arra, hogy minden egyes célpontnál egyesével találjanak egy gyenge pontot, például egy nem frissített programot, vagy egy túl könnyen kitalálható jelszót. Ehelyett a Kaseya nevű rendszergazda-szoftvert törték fel, majd az így létrejövő csatornát használták fel arra, hogy a cég ügyfelein, gyanútlan rendszergazdákon keresztül terjesszék a zsarolóvírusukat.
Egy ilyen kártevő célja, hogy miután bejut egy hálózatra, megpróbálja az ott tárolt fájlokat, adatbázisokat elérhetetlenné tenni. Nem egyszerűen letörli, hanem kódolja azokat – és váltságdíjat követel azért, hogy a kódolást visszafordítva újra használható állapotba hozza a gépeket. A Kaseya ügyfelei mellett egy Apple-beszállítót, a világ legnagyobb húsfeldolgozóját, és az Acert is megtámadta már a REvil, sőt, a Colonial üzemanyag-vezeték elleni akcióhoz is közük lehetett. A Reuters az amerikai offenzíva sikerét annak tulajdonítja, hogy az Egyesült Államok elkezdte a zsarolóvírus-támadásokat a terrorizmushoz hasonló prioritással kezelni.

Amikor a kollektíva egy tagja megpróbálta annak a segítségével visszaállítani a rendszereiket, a szövetségiek sikeresen bejutottak oda. Szakértők szerint ezt a módszert a REvil is előszeretettel használja.

A REvil (Ransomware Evil – Zsarolószoftver Gonosz) nevű orosz hekkercsoporthoz köthető két internetes oldal egyik napról a másikra vált elérhetetlenné. Az amerikaiak egyébként őket tették felelőssé a világ legnagyobb húsfeldolgozója, az amerikai JBS elleni májusi zsarolóvírusos támadásért is. A csoport tagjai nemrég feltörték egy floridai IT-szolgáltató szervereit, ezzel világszerte rengeteg cégnek okoztak kárt.
Az amerikaiak mostanában többször világossá tették, hogy az orosz államtól és Putyintól várják a fellépést a kiberbűnözőkkel szemben. Amikor a két elnök, Biden és Putyin Genfben találkoztak, feltételezhetően pont emiatt futott zátonyra a párbeszéd: az orosz elnök tagadta, hogy bármihez köze volna. Amikor pénteken telefonon beszéltek, Biden ismét felhozta a témát.
Egyelőre nem tudni, miért tűntek el a REvil oldalai, de az előzmények alapján elképzelhető, hogy az amerikai vagy az orosz hatóságok csaptak le rájuk. A BBC forrása, aki állítása szerint kapcsolatban áll a csoporttal, azt mondta, Amerika áll az akció mögött, de a Kreml is egyre nagyobb nyomást gyakorolt rájuk.

Újra támadásba lendült a REvil néven futó orosz hackercsoport, az Acer után most az Egyesült Államok legértékesebb vállalatát, az Apple-t támadták meg, amelytől ötvenmillió dollárt követelnek – írja a The Record.
A hackercsoport a világ legnagyobb laptopgyártójától, a tajvani székhelyű Quanta Computer-től lopta el az Apple ismertetett és még bemutatás előtt álló termékeinek leírásait, illetve terveit, amiket közzé is tettek a dark weben (sötét net) található oldalukon.
Dmitry Smilyanets, a Future Recorded elemzője a The Record-nak elmondta, hogy a REvil UNKN becenéven futó „szóvivője” egy fórumbejegyzésben az eddigi „leghangosabb támadásnak” nevezte a mostanit.
A hackerek közölték, hogy a Quanta Computer jelezte feléjük, hogy nem hajlandó fizetni, ezért az Apple-nek május elsejei határidőt szabtak meg a „váltságdíj” kifizetésére, addig viszont naponta nyilvánosságra hoznak egy új tervrajzot.
A REvil korábban az Acert zsarolta meg adatok szivárogtatásával. Tőlük szintén 50 millió dollárt kértek, Monero kriptovalutában.
A támadásokat a ransomware szoftverrel hajtották végre. Ennek segítségével letöltik, majd titkosítják az adatokat és az illetékesek csak a hackerek engedélyével tudnak hozzájuk férni.
