Az „Allahou Akbar”-t kiabáló nő nem volt hajlandó engedelmeskedni az utasításoknak, és azzal fenyegetőzött, hogy felrobbantja magát.
A rendőrséget a reggeli órákban risztották a francia főváros elővárosi vasúthálózatáról az utasok, hogy a Val-de-Marne-ban közlekedő RER-szerelvényen egy teljesen lefátyolozott nő fenyegetőzik.
A rendőrségnek sikerült elkülönítenie a nőt a párizsi Bibliothèque François-Mitterrand állomáson, amelyet gyorsan kiürítettek. A rendőrség és az ügyészség közlése szerint a nő „nem volt hajlandó engedelmeskedni a rendőrségi utasításoknak”, és azzal fenyegetőzött, hogy „felrobbantja magát”. Az egyik rendőr ekkor egyszer rálőtt és súlyosan megsebesítette, az állapota életveszélyes.
Franciaországban október 14-én megemelték a nemzetbiztonsági készültség szintjét és elővigyázatosságból mintegy 7000 katonát mozgósítottak. A döntést megelőző nap egy arrasi középiskola volt diákja, egy csecsen származású 20 éves orosz állampolgár halálra késelt egy tanárt, több embert megsebesített. A támadó azt kiabálta, hogy „Allahu Akbar”, azaz „Isten a legnagyobb”.
A férfi azon a napon követte el tettét, amikorra a Hamász palesztin terrorszervezet vezetői meghirdette a világ muszlim közösségeinek, hogy vállaljanak szolidaritást velük, akár zsidó- vagy Izrael-ellenes atrocitások, akár tüntetések formájában. Franciaország – akárcsak Magyarország – minden ilyen megmozdulást betiltott.
