Az orosz Szu–24-es vadászgép ismeretlen okokból zuhant le egy szibirkai farm közelében. A Baza Telegram-csatornáján közzétett fotón jól látszik, hogy a katonai repülőgép hátulja leégett. A pilótáknak állítólag időben sikerült katapultálniuk.
A Szu–24 a Szovjetunióban, a Szuhoj Tervezőirodában az 1960-as években kifejlesztett kétüléses, két hajtóműves, változtatható szárnynyilazású, szuperszonikus vadászbombázó repülőgép. Az 1970-es és az 1980-as években a Szovjetunió alapvető frontbombázó repülőgépe volt. Néhány fejlődő országba exportálták, és több szovjet utódállam is üzemelteti.
Az ukrán vezérkar tájékoztatása szerint a háború kezdete óta az ukrán fegyveres erők 266 orosz repülőgépet és 235 helikoptert semmisítettek meg.

A kelet-ukrajnai határon február 17-én kezdett el eszkalálódni a helyzet, habár nehéz az információk között megtalálni a valóságot, mivel az orosz fél rendszeresen az urkán erőket vádolja különböző fegyveres megmozdulásokkal, míg az ukrán fél az orosz erőket vádolja.
