Egy 11 éves virginiai lány többször is azzal hívta fel a hatóságokat, hogy bomba van valamelyik floridai iskolában, vagy lövöldözés történt, és meghalt néhány ember. Bár megpróbálta eltüntetni a személyazonosságára vonatkozó nyomokat, végül megtalálták a rendőrök.
Vádat emeltek Floridában egy 11 éves lány ellen, miután kiderült, több mint 20 alkalommal swattingolta az állam különböző iskoláit – számolt be róla a Gizmodo. A swatting néven elhíresült „ugratás” lényege, hogy valaki a hatóságot hamis indokkal felhívva éri el, hogy a célpontja házához felfegyverzett rohamrendőrök menjenek ki. Korábban már történt tragédia egy ilyen esetből. A gyerek Virginiában él, így egyelőre nem tisztázott, van-e bármilyen kapcsolata az állammal, és egyáltalán miért éppen Floridát választotta.
A hívások május 14-én kezdődtek, amikor a Palm Coastban található Buddy Taylor középiskolával kapcsolatban tett telefonos bejelentést a rendőrségen. A következő egy hétben több mint 20 további hívást indított, a célpontjai között pedig általános és középiskolák is szerepeltek.
A fiatal a hívásokban azt mondta a rendőröknek, hogy bomba van az épületben, lövöldözéssel fenyegetőzött, de olyan is volt, hogy azt állította: tanárt vagy diákokat lőttek le az adott intézményben.
Miután a hatóság kiderítette a hívások forrását, a lány elismerte, hogy ő telefonált. A kihallgatása során elmondta, az internetről tanulta meg, hogyan rejtse el a személyazonosságát. Azt a hatóságok nem közölték, miként sikerült mégis a nyomára bukkanni. A fiatal azt is bevallotta, hogy a marylandi közgyűlés épületével kapcsolatban is tett bejelentést.
A gyereket a telefonhívások mellett a tárgyi bizonyítékok manipulálásával is megvádolták. Az ügyészség jelenleg azon dolgozik, hogy Floridában tárgyalják az ügyét.
