Az amerikai képviselőház szerdán szankciós törvénytervezetet fogadott el Kína ellen az ujgur kisebbség helyzete miatt. A demokrata többségű képviselőház 413:1 arányban szavazta meg a jogszabályt. Ugyanezt a javaslatot egy héttel korábban a szenátus már egyhangúlag elfogadta.
A szankciós törvénytervezetről már csak Donald Trump aláírása hiányzik.
A törvénytervezet büntetőintézkedéseket követel a muzulmán vallású ujgur kisebbség tagjainak tömeges internálásáért felelős kínai vezetők ellen. A jogszabályt eredetileg Marco Rubio floridai republikánus szenátor terjesztette elő, aki javasolva, hogy az ujgurok emberi jogainak megsértéséért felelős kínai kormányzati tisztségviselőktől vonják meg az esetleges amerikai beutazási vízum lehetőségét, valamint az amerikai kormányzat tanulmányozza további szankciók lehetőségét. A határozat egyben felkéri az amerikai külügyminisztériumot az emberi jogok megsértéséről szóló külön jelentés összeállítására is.
A kongresszus mindkét háza által elfogadott javaslatot még Donald Trump amerikai elnöknek kell ellátnia a kézjegyével, hogy törvényerőre emelkedhessék.
A muszlim vallású ujgurok mintegy tízmillió lelket számláló közössége Kína nyugati részén, Hszincsiang-Ujgur Autonóm Területen él. Az ENSZ 2018-as jelentése szerint akkor már 1 millió ujgur nemzetiségű embert tartottak táborokba zárva, melyek létét kiszivárgott dokumentumok is megerősítették. Egy jelentés szerint a kínai kormány foglyok közül mintegy 80 ezer embert kényszermunkára utaló körülmények között dolgoztat 27 kínai gyárban, amelyek a világ legnagyobb cégeinek termelnek.
Az amerikai kormány tavaly októberben tiltólistára tett 28 kínai vállalatot és más szervezetet, mert részt vesznek a muszlim ujgur kisebbség elnyomásában.
