Százkilencvenötre emelkedett Indonéziában a halálesetek száma, melyeket a szennyezett szirupos gyógyszer okozhatott – írta hétfőn a medicalexpress.com tudományos-ismeretterjesztő portál az indonéz hatóságokra hivatkozva. A délkelet-ázsiai országban augusztus óta megugrott a gyermekek körében a vesekárosodásos esetek száma, amelyet mérgezést okozó összetevőket tartalmazó szirupokhoz kötnek.
Az egészségügyi tárca szóvivője sajtótájékoztatóján elmondta, hogy eddig több mint 320 ilyen pácienst regisztráltak, akik közül 27-en még kórházban vannak. A betegek többsége ötévesnél fiatalabb. Az október végén közzétett legutóbbi adatok még 133 halálesetről szóltak.
A történtek nyomán Indonézia ideiglenesen betiltotta az összes szirupalapú gyógyszer értékesítését, és megvizsgálta a gyermekek lázának csillapítására használt termékeket.
A tárca szerint a vizsgálati eredmények azt mutatták, hogy a készítmények rendkívül nagy arányban tartalmaznak mérgező dietilén-glikolt és etilénglikolt, amelyeket ipari célokra, többek között fagyállók előállítására használnak.
Az egészségügyi minisztérium szerint időközben sikerült 246 fiolányi, kifejezetten ilyen típusú vesekárosodás elleni gyógyszert beszerezni, az egyébként nagy eredményességgel használt szer többségét Szingapúr és Ausztrália adományozta.
Az indonéziai élelmiszer- és gyógyszerügynökség öt szirupban talált veszélyes mértékben mérgező anyagot. A termékeket kivonták a forgalomból és megsemmisítették. A rendőrség három helyi gyógyszeripari vállalat ellen indított eljárást, s kettőnek felfüggesztették a szirupgyártási engedélyét.
A nyugat-afrikai Gambiában, ahol 70 hasonló haláleset történt, szintén vizsgálatot indítottak a paracetamolszirupokkal összefüggésbe hozható gyermekkori halálesetekkel kapcsolatban. A szirupokat az újdelhi székhelyű Maiden Pharmaceuticals Ltd. gyártotta. Az indiai hatóságok ugyancsak vizsgálatot indítottak.
Az indonéziai élelmiszer- és gyógyszerügyi hivatal (BPOM) ugyanakkor közölte, hogy a Maiden Pharmaceuticals termékei helyben nem kaphatók.
