A cég vezetői egy-egy kétéltű járművet vezetve akartak átkelni a Fehér-tenger partjai közelében egy folyón, amikor a jármű felborult, és elsodorta őket a víz. Velük volt a túrán Gabrieljan felesége, valamint egy barátjuk, Szergej Olszevics is, ők viszont még idejében kiugrottak a járművekből és a partra menekültek, így túlélték a balesetet, a helyi lakoson megmentették őket.
A cégvezetőket először eltűntnek nyilvánították, a keresésüket pedig a kedvezőtlen időjárási viszonyok nehezítették. A RIA Novosztyi hírügynökség egyik forrása szerint a holtesteket a folyóparton találták meg.
